About the Role

As a Recreation Programmer, you'll play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for our residents. Reporting to the Manager of Recreation and Volunteer Services, you'll design, coordinate, and deliver recreational programs that promote engagement, well-being, and joy for residents of all abilities.

You'll work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to ensure programs are meaningful, person-centered, and in keeping with the mission and values of Grand View Manor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and implement group activities, special events, and individualized programs for residents.
  • Create and maintain monthly recreation calendars for your assigned unit.
  • Encourage participation and provide one-on-one engagement based on residents' goals and abilities.
  • Complete recreation assessments and quarterly evaluations.
  • Document resident participation using our electronic charting system.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care conferences.
  • Accompany residents on outings and help promote events throughout the home.
  • Provide direction to volunteers and students during activities.
  • Maintain recreation equipment, supplies, and inventory.
  • Follow all health, safety, and infection control guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager of Recreation and Volunteer Services.

About You

  • Diploma or degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation Leadership, or related field.
  • Minimum one year of experience in a similar role (experience in long-term care is an asset).
  • Knowledge of Alzheimer's Disease and other dementias preferred.
  • Resident-centered, creative, and passionate about improving quality of life for older adults.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Flexible, energetic, and adaptable to changing priorities.
  • Able to teach and lead groups confidently.
  • Basic computer literacy required.
  • Musical talent and/or a Class 4 driver's license are assets.
  • Must provide a clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check.
