Job Summary:

The Clinical Physiotherapist II will work in the Pain clinic within Pain Management/Pain Services.

The program will receive province-wide referrals and provide multidimensional rehabilitation and follow-up for clients with long term pain and related health needs. It will work collaboratively with the Centre for Pain and Disability Management (CPDM) and work together underneath Pain Management.

This Clinical Physiotherapist II position is responsible for providing specialty physiotherapy assessment, interventions, consultation and education in Pain services, as well as interventions for those patients from pain services who require follow-up physiotherapy care.

The patient population is mainly chronic in nature and will include care and education to (but not limited) patients with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), and intensive rehab following interventional treatment. The caseload will be high volume and turn over. Other musculoskeletal conditions may be included in caseload depending on operational needs. Work is performed independently in close association with the pain services team (anesthesiologists, medical students/residents, nurse practitioners, occupational therapists, social worker nurses and team members from CPDM).

This Clinical Physiotherapist II position plays a key leadership role in Pain services. This Clinical PT II position may orient, evaluate and mentor staff as well as participate in program evaluation and quality initiative activities of the Program.

This position will act as a provincial physiotherapy expert in pain services and as such provides advice/information to physiotherapists across the province on an as needed basis.

Supervision and delegation to Physiotherapy Support Workers may be an expectation. The PT will be responsible to precept physiotherapy students and offer other clinical education experiences to students within NLHS Eastern Urban Zone.

This position reports to the Manager of Patient Services, Pain Management and maintains accountability to the Physiotherapy Professional Practice Consultant for professional integrity and professional practice issues.

Regularly requires a combination of sitting, standing, and walking.
o Regularly required to bend, kneel, stretch and physically lifting, pushing, pulling and/or maneuvering patient/clients with medium force.
o Occasionally uses hand tools and equipment.
o Time pressures and interruptions are experienced with little control over work pace.
o Higher than normal levels of attentiveness/alertness is required when performing activities for the orthopedic client with complex medical conditions.

Qualifications:

Graduation from an approved/recognized school of Physiotherapy is required.

Registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Physiotherapists (NLCP) is required.

A minimum of three years' experience within the last five working as a Clinical Physiotherapist with an adult orthopedic outpatient population.

Successful completion of a post entry education course in Orthopedic Level II - Upper Quadrant AND Lower Quadrant (or equivalent as determined by NLHS) is required.

Demonstrated effective communication, both verbally and in writing with co-workers, patients and their families in both a one-on-one and/or group environment.

Effectively translated and communicated knowledge in the specialized area of physiotherapy practice to others.

Possessed proven leadership skills.

Demonstrated ability to provide supervision, coaching, mentorship and training to physiotherapists, physiotherapy support workers and students.

Ability to prioritize caseload and patient needs.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as a member of an interprofessional team.

Please Note: The successful applicant must be willing to complete approved courses in Pain science through the Canadian Physiotherapy Association at the first available opportunity. The course must be completed within two years of commencing the position. Financial support may be provided by the employer.
