The Social Worker III will work in the Pain clinic within Pain Management/Pain Services.

The program will receive province-wide referrals and provide multidimensional rehabilitation and follow-up for clients with long term pain and related health needs. It will work collaboratively with the Centre for Pain and Disability Management (CPDM) and work together underneath Pain Management.

Provision of clinical services requires specialized, expert knowledge and skills in the area of psychosocial pain medicine, which is a specialty concerned with the understanding and treating the social, psychological, emotional, spiritual, quality-of-life and functional aspects of pain.

The goal of social work services is to improve health outcomes by providing services to individuals, families, and groups through therapeutic intervention and interdisciplinary teamwork.

? Occasional lifting or physical strength required to carry boxes of resources/materials, flip charts and audio-visual equipment up to 15 lbs.
? Visual and auditory concentration is required when reviewing client files/notes and for documenting work in computerized systems.
? A higher-than-normal level of attentiveness and carefulness is required when assessing clients, especially those who may be at a high risk, in order to ensure health and safety of all.
? Lack of control over the work pace and time pressures can occur when completing assessments, case documentation and workload reports, managing emergency and routine appointments within the allocated timeframe.
? Occasionally there are interruptions due to a crisis situation.

Qualifications:

Graduation with a Clinical or Integrated Master's degree in Social Work from an accredited program with the MSW field placement in a clinical practice is required.

Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required.

Minimum of five years of experience within the last seven working as a Social Worker in an adult acute and/or chronic illness is required.

Duties:

? Experience in individuals, couples, family and group therapy is required.
? Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, and Medical Assistance in Dying.
? Knowledge of adult rehabilitation and the challenges of transition for young adults.
? Knowledge in the area of rehabilitation, independent living and community integration.
? Knowledge of community-based resources.
? Knowledge of therapies in stress management, coping and adjustment therapies, suicide intervention and grief and bereavement.
? Knowledge of crisis interventions and supportive counseling.
? Knowledge of case management.
? Demonstrated strong clinical leadership skills.
? Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.
? Exhibited strong program development and evaluation skills.
? Demonstrated proven analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational and research skills.
? Exhibited strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.
? Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
? Demonstrated ability to write proposals, develop and evaluate clinical projects.
? Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment and provide clinical consultation.
? Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, prioritizing caseloads and patient needs.

Please Note: The Social Worker III with Pain Medicine is an advanced, specialized professional clinical and leadership role within the social work discipline.

This position develops, performs and evaluates intensive therapeutic counseling, therapy and support services to restore and enhance the psychosocial functioning of clients within the Pain Clinic of the Rehab and Continuing Care program.

This position provides intensive therapeutic intervention to clients and their families and provides expert knowledge and skills within the rehabilitation practice area for health care professionals and community agencies.
