The Project Specialist is responsible for managing and supporting capital projects while providing guidance and assistance to other Project Managers. This role ensures programs are executed in alignment with division sponsor requirements, technical specifications, and organizational standards. It involves coordinating resources, liaising with contractors, and implementing effective programs and procedures to promote safety, quality, and efficiency. The position also plays a key role in managing the organization's capital project portfolio, ensuring projects are delivered successfully, safely, and to the highest quality standards.
Key functions include:
- Develop detailed project plans, including schedules and budgets, in alignment with NB Power's Project Management Methodology. Provide planning support for larger projects led by other Project Managers.
- Prepare and deliver regular reports to meet governance and oversight requirements for the investment review committee, division management, and the corporate PMO. Support project close-out reporting, including lessons learned, demobilization, and contractor evaluations.
- Oversee project execution by coordinating internal and external resources, including corporate change management, to ensure smooth transitions from construction to commissioning and turnover to operations. Assist in executing larger projects managed by other Project Managers.
Our ideal teammate will have:
- A Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering or a Diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering ( those with a technical diploma will require an additional two years of experience)
- Eight years of progressive experience successfully managing projects
- Five years of experience managing projects within the electric utility sector (preferably in Thermal and Hydro) or in an industrial environment
- Experience with Microsoft software including Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, and SharePoint
- PMP (Project Management Professional) designation or working towards designation will be considered as an asset
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
An Eligibility List generated from this competition may be used to fill future vacancies at the same level within a period of up to 12 months.
