Position Summary
The Retirement Home Administrator is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operational oversight of the residence. This role ensures high standards of care, regulatory compliance, financial stewardship, and a nurturing environment for residents and staff alike.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Operations
- Oversee daily operations of the retirement home, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning
- Supervise and support staff, fostering a collaborative and respectful workplace culture
- Ensure compliance with provincial regulations, licensing requirements, and safety standards
- Resident Care & Engagement
- Promote a resident-centered approach to care and services
- Determine best fit for Intake, manage discharge process
- Address resident concerns and ensure their physical, emotional, and social needs are met
- Coordinate activities and programs that enhance quality of life
- Medication Management
- Emergency response
- Financial & Administrative Management
- Manage budgets, financial reporting, and resource allocation in alignment with not-for-profit principles
- Oversee billing, payroll, and vendor relationships
- Maintain accurate records and documentation
- Governance & Community Relations
- Report to the Board of Directors and support strategic planning initiatives
- Build relationships with families, volunteers, donors, and community partners
- Represent the home in public forums and advocate for senior care issues
Qualifications
- Degree or diploma in Gerontology, Nursing, residential care, or related field.
- A combination of education and experience will be considered
- Experience in residential care, long-term care, or retirement home management
- Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations
- Compassionate, resident-first mindset
- Health Administration training may be considered an asset
Assets
- Experience in not-for-profit governance or fundraising
- Familiarity with provincial senior care standards and funding models
- Ability to foster a culture of inclusion, dignity, and respect
