Join Our Team: Family Counsellor (Level 3 - Individualized Intervention)
Part-Time (0.6 FTE) | Charlottetown, PEI
At the Prince Edward Island Military Family Resource Centre (PEI MFRC), we believe in the strength of community. Our team works together every day to ensure military families have the support they need to navigate the unique challenges of military life. We are currently seeking a Family Counsellor who not only brings professional expertise but also lived experience as part of a military family. This personal connection is essential-it's what allows us to truly understand, empathize, and walk alongside those we serve.
Why This Role Matters
Military families face transitions, absences, relocations, and moments of uncertainty that can feel overwhelming. As a Family Counsellor, you will provide a safe space, compassionate guidance, and trauma-informed care to individuals, couples, and families. You will also be part of a supportive, close-knit team that leans on each other, celebrates together, and makes this work both meaningful and rewarding.
What Makes Working Here Special
- A true team spirit - Collaboration and support are at the heart of everything we do. You'll never carry the weight of this work alone.
- A positive and welcoming atmosphere - Our workplace is one where you'll feel respected, valued, and encouraged to bring your whole self.
- Clinical supervision - We provide dedicated supervision to ensure you have guidance, growth, and professional support every step of the way.
- Work-life balance - With part-time hours and flexibility, we want you to thrive in your personal life as much as in your professional role.
- Purpose-driven impact - Every day, you'll see the difference your care and expertise make for families who serve our country in their own way.
- Well-being and security - Along with meaningful work and a supportive team, we offer a 5% matching RRSP program and the option to buy into our medical and dental benefits plan-because caring for our staff and their families is just as important as caring for the families we serve.
- Competitive salary - Salary range equates to $65,536 - $92,058, prorated to $39,321 - $55,234 annually for this part-time position.
What You'll Do
- Provide inclusive, client-centered counselling and crisis support using evidence-informed, trauma-sensitive approaches.
- Support individuals and families through challenges such as grief, trauma, separation, and life transitions.
- Work collaboratively with our team in care planning, debriefings, and peer support.
- Advocate for clients, coordinate referrals, and connect families to community resources.
- Empower families to build resilience, navigate systems, and feel less alone in their journey.
What You Bring
- Lived experience in the military family lifestyle (required).
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Counselling, or related field.
- Registration in good standing with a recognized professional College or Association.
- Experience in trauma-informed counselling, short-term intervention, and family systems.
