The Energy Efficiency Services team is creating a talent pool of Technical Energy Advisors to support our business energy efficiency programs, including commercial, industrial, new construction, and demand response. As part of one of the subgroups in the business team, the Technical Energy Advisor serves as an expert advisor and facilitator, reviewing energy projects, engaging with stakeholders, supporting program delivery, and helping build energy management capability across sectors. They're instrumental in ensuring that NB Power's energy efficiency programs are technically sound, effectively promoted, and aligned with broader sustainability goals.
These opportunities may be term or regular positions, with flexible location and hybrid work options, and the chance to contribute across different business programs and sectors.
Key functions may include:
- Customer Engagement & Program Support - Work with participants, clients, and stakeholders to promote energy efficiency programs, identify opportunities, and provide guidance through the application process. Deliver presentations, build capacity with internal/external partners. Ability to interact with variety of individuals, including knowledgeable business executives, and generous non-profit volunteers.
- Technical Review & Assessment - Conduct reviews of new construction energy models, ASHRAE level 2 energy audits, feasibility studies, and site walk-throughs (ASHRAE Level 1 generally), verifying submissions and ensuring compliance with program standards.
- Collaboration & Reporting - Collaborate with program funding representatives and NB Power teams to advance efficiency and emission-reduction goals. Document work and results in program folders and systems.
Our ideal teammate will have:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or related field);
OR
- Two-year diploma in Engineering Technology (Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, Alternative Energy Systems, or related field).
With a bachelor's degree:
Three years of experience in one or more of the following:
- Energy management / energy efficiency, including energy modelling, audits, submittals for code compliance, or program delivery in a technical role (e.g., energy efficiency, LEED, Zero Carbon Building Standards); including review of the work of peers
- Commercial/industrial engineering design, recommissioning/retro-commissioning, or related technical roles; including review of the work of peers
In addition to:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Written and spoken competence in English and French may be required for some of the positions
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
With a two-year diploma:
Five years of experience in one or more of the following:
- Energy management / energy efficiency, including energy modelling, audits, submittals for code compliance, or program delivery in a technical role (e.g., energy efficiency, LEED, Zero Carbon Building Standards); including review of the work of peers
- Commercial/industrial engineering design, recommissioning/retro-commissioning, or related technical roles; including review of the work of peer
In addition to:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Written and spoken competence in English and French may be required for some of the positions
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence
Preference will be given to those who possess experience, have accreditation or affiliation in some of the following areas:
- Energy auditing and developing energy management plans.
- Mechanical or electrical design of commercial/industrial systems with a focus on efficiency.
- Implementing and working with energy or building management systems.
- Customer service and responding effectively to inquiries from a broad range of clients.
- Experience with energy modelling software such as RETScreen, Carrier HAP, Energy Plus
- Experience with code and green building programs' submittals and verification processes (LEED, Green Globes, BOMA BEST, Zero Carbon Buildings)
- Certified Energy Manager or Auditor (CEM or CEA)
- Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP)
- Strategic Energy Management processes and standards, such as ISO 500001
An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
