We are currently looking for an Intermediate Accountant to join our upbeat and collaborative team. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, Financial Reporting this role will give an early career accountant exposure to a high performing team focused on producing quality financial reporting using first class processes and systems

More specifically in this role you will be responsible for:

  • Preparation of sections of Emera's quarterly financial statements and management discussion and analysis (MD&A);
  • Assisting with preparation of Emera's consolidated financial results on a monthly basis using Emera's consolidation software;
  • Preparation of variance analysis reporting on a quarterly basis;
  • Preparation of government reports;
  • Preparation and analysis of financial results;
  • Working with other departments to gather and provide information;
  • Preparing routine and ad hoc reports and other accounting and special project responsibilities as assigned;
  • Acting as back up and support for other team members where applicable; and
  • Responsible for execution of internal controls as assigned.

Competencies, Skills and Experience:

As the ideal candidate you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies, and possess or are working towards the desired skills and experience listed below:

  • You hold a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or Commerce, combined with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related role and have completed, or be actively working toward a professional accounting designation (CPA). A related combination of experience and education will be considered.
  • You demonstrate strong relationship skills and the ability to work well with people at various levels within the organization;
  • Detail oriented and possesses strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills;
  • Able to work in a fast paced, deadline driven, team-focused environment with the ability to work independently and to meet tight deadlines;
  • You have the willingness to challenge the status quo and are dedicated to identifying continuous improvements and efficiencies and are comfortable working with confidential information;
  • Proficient in the MS Office Suite of software and have experience with financial reporting systems and are comfortable creating and analyzing spreadsheets and reports.
