The Opportunity

Emera Inc. is hiring for the position of, Co-op Corporate Accounting for the Winter 2026 term (January to April) with our Corporate Accounting team.

This 16-week work term will enable you to gain exposure to a corporate financial close process, and experience with cross-affiliate transactions.

What you'll do:

  • Perform full-cycle accounting duties, including journal entries and monthly bank/account reconciliations
  • Preparation of Stats Canada surveys and other filing requirements
  • Prepare monthly intercompany billings, categorize charges for tax reporting, and complete related variance analysis
  • Preparation of Canadian corporate HST tax returns
  • Assist with monthly HST return filings for multiple corporate entities
  • Assistance with other adhoc requests from Corporate Accounting and other finance departments.

Work term outcomes:

By the end of your work term, you will have developed an intermediate understanding of:

  • Full-cycle corporate accounting practices
  • The financial structure and operations of Emera and its affiliated companies

This experience will provide you with a solid launchpad for a future in finance or accounting related roles.

Who you are:

You're a proactive, detail-oriented student in your 3rd or 4th year of an undergraduate degree in Accounting or Finance, with a desire to grow your knowledge and contribute to meaningful financial work.

  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks;
  • Highly motivated individual with a strong work ethic and analytical skills;
  • Prior accounting experience considered an asset but not a requirement;
  • Strong computer literacy including effective working skills of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

You bring:

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks across teams and deadlines
  • A strong work ethic, analytical thinking, and a collaborative mindset
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and SharePoint
  • Previous accounting or tax experience (an asset, but not required)
  • A sharp eye for detail and a passion for learning
