POSITION SUMMARY: The Municipal Wellness Program Coordinator plays a key role in advancing workplace health and well-being across Nova Scotia municipalities. This role blends program coordination, health promotion and innovation to create healthier municipal workplaces. The Coordinator will design, implement, and evaluate wellness initiatives that foster mental health, physical health, and organizational well-being.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Wellness Program Management (60%)
1.1. Program and Project Management - Prepare and carry out an annual program plan and schedule for the delivery of wellness initiatives, including but not limited to Wellness Grants; wellness related education and training opportunities; Municipal Wellness day/week/month; Wellness challenge programs and other program initiatives; develop and execute a communications plan for the wellness strategy and programs; develop and execute a communications plan for the wellness strategy and programs; prepare wellness material and content including managing the municipal wellness program website; establish written communication pieces and presentations related to health and wellness to share with municipalities (roadshow/conferences/etc.).
1.2. Public Relations - Provide support and work with municipal wellness champions and regional wellness committees to share resources, build networks, and support the development of healthy workplace cultures. Facilitate communities of practice and peer-to-peer knowledge exchange.
1.3. Advocacy - Research trends and best practices in workplace wellness (e.g., psychological health, equity, diversity & inclusion, mental health promotion, and organizational well-being). Recommend new or enhanced programs and pilot innovative approaches that respond to municipal needs.
1.4. Workplans - Maintain an inventory of wellness services, programs, and initiatives across municipalities. Contribute to evidence-informed planning and evaluation.
1.5. Websites - Assist with maintenance of the program websites and communication platforms, ensuring accessible and engaging communication with municipalities.
2. Events and Education (30%)
2.1. Events - Support AMANS' strategic direction by planning and facilitating wellness events, including webinars, workshops, and conference sessions. Create opportunities for municipalities to learn from each other and apply best practices.
2.2 Budgeting - In partnership with the Manager of Professional Development & Education and Finance staff, contribute to the development and monitoring of the program budget.
2.3 Training and Capacity Building: Conduct training needs assessments and design or adapt educational offerings to build municipal capacity in wellness promotion. Facilitate workshops and share practical tools municipalities can apply locally.
3 Financial Management (10%)
3.2 Fiscal Management - Assist the Manager of Professional Development & Education in maintaining the Wellness Program budget, ensuring efficient use of funds.
3.3 Fiscal Integrity - Contribute to transparent reporting and accountability, supporting AMANS leadership in demonstrating the impact and value of the Wellness Program.
4 Other duties as assigned
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND TRAINING
Education and Experience
· A college diploma /an undergraduate degree specializing in health services, health promotion, recreation and/or health education. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
· Experience in project planning, implementation and evaluation
· Experience in project management, problem solving, and data-informed decision making.
· Knowledge of health promotion theory, behaviour change, and workplace wellness practices.
· Strong communication skills (written, verbal and presentation)
Assets:
· Experience with budgeting and grant/program reporting.
· Experience using website content management systems or willingness to learn.
· Familiarity with Microsoft 365 and digital communication tools.
· Previous experience in a municipal or organizational setting considered an asset.
· Experience working with Boards and Committees.
· Valid Driver's License to meet travel requirements.
SALARY RANGE
$60,000 to $70,000 year.
