Reporting to the Executive Director Finance, Medavie Health Services, the Director, Finance is the leader of MHNL's Finance team, overseeing the daily accounting operations for MHNL, and providing guidance on strategic financial decisions for MHNL's financial health. This individual will be a key member in a fast moving environment, responding to government requests, working with operational leaders, providing costing and advising financial options to government as MHNL and the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador continue to improve upon healthcare outcomes in the province.
This role is a business financial partner to the Senior Director, Integrated Emergency Health Services, oversees monthly financial reporting of MHNL, and is overall responsible for the finance team's preparation and review of the month end reporting package and forecasts. The Director will also liaise with government stakeholders, external auditors and the auditor general as needed to clarify and explain financial results. The Director will be responsible for the finance team's preparation and review of the annual operating and capital budget internally and externally for government stakeholders. They will also be responsible for working with other finance stakeholders within Medavie Health Services and Medavie Inc. to ensure appropriate consolidation of results and reporting to the board of Medavie.
Medavie operates under a shared service model, as such payroll, benefits, accounts payable/receivable, procurement are all under separate leadership. The finance team is expected to liaise with these teams, reviewing financial results and following up on discrepancies/unexpected trends.
Excellent leadership abilities, including the ability to manage a remote team and ability to develop relationships remotely, excellent critical thinking skills, ability to multi-task while meeting tight deadlines are just a handful of the skills required. The incumbent embraces a talented team spirit through effective collaboration collaborating with operational leaders and other support functions. Your diligence, commitment, optimism, and persistence get the job done.

Professional Qualifications & Competencies:
- Post-secondary degree in either Business Administration or Commerce with professional designation of Certification Professional Accountant (CPA).
- Minimum of at least 8 years of direct work experience, 3-5 years in a leadership position.
- Preference of those who have managed at a senior management level.
- Able to mentor and guide staff.
- Ability to develop relationships internally within a large organization and externally with government stakeholders.
- Experience with government financial compliance, budgeting and reporting, or working with government clients is an asset.
- Experience with compiling financial statements and monthly financial reporting.
- Must have well established verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrate initiative and are comfortable working independently.
- Detail-oriented and have the ability to work appropriately with confidential and sensitive information.
