About The CMM

The Confederacy of Mainland Mi'kmaq (The CMM) is a Tribal Council representing the eight Mi'kmaq communities of mainland Nova Scotia. Our mission is to proactively promote and assist Mi'kmaq communities' initiatives towards self-determination and enhancement of community. The CMM's Department of Aquatic Resources and Fisheries Management (DARFM) is currently looking for a motivated and knowledgeable candidate to fill the role of TRP Engagement Coordinator.

Position Overview

The TRP Engagement Coordinator provides regional leadership and coordination for the Engagement Facilitator team within the Treaty Rights Protected (TRP) Fisheries framework. Reporting to the TRP Assistant Fisheries Manager and working closely with the KMKNO Fisheries Manager, this role is responsible for organizing and supporting consistent engagement strategies across communities, ensuring coordination among facilitators, and maintaining high-quality communication with harvesters. The coordinator supports day-to-day scheduling, reporting, information sharing, and implementation of outreach activities to build trust and foster consensus across the Mi'kmaq fishing communities. This role will work to elevate the consistency and effectiveness of the TRP engagement team, and provide a liaison point between community-based engagement and operational leadership.

Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Team Coordination and Support: Organize and facilitate weekly check-ins with Engagement Facilitators.
  • Support alignment of outreach efforts, harvester meetings, and communications.
  • Track team schedules, activity plans, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate consistent delivery of key messages, protocols, and updates to harvesters.
  • Assist in developing engagement materials, education resources, and schedules.
  • Support the adaptation of engagement approaches based on community needs.
  • Review and compile community engagement summaries.
  • Identify cross-community trends, challenges, and successes.
  • Share regular updates with Fisheries leadership to inform policy and implementation.
  • Mentor new Engagement Facilitators and support their onboarding.
  • Help facilitate training on facilitation, outreach, and TRP knowledge.

Position Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years experience in community engagement, fisheries coordination, or team leadership.
  • Deep knowledge of Mi'kmaq fisheries and Netukulimk principles.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining alignment with the broader team.
  • Mi'kmaq language proficiency or commitment to learning is considered an asset.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel regionally.
  • Field-based and regionally mobile.
  • Weekly team coordination activities.
  • May require evening and weekend availability.
  • Experience working in First Nations communities.
  • Prior participation in fisheries monitoring or environmental stewardship roles.

Education/Certification/Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in management, science, education, enforcement or a related field and/or two-years of relevant working experience in a related field
  • Education and experience in the field of scientific research, fisheries monitoring or enforcement.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment.

Salary/Employment Term:

Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000 per year. This is a one-year probationary contract with opportunity for renewal.
