The mandate of the Cape Breton Family Resource Coalition is "families working together to build healthier families". Prenatal Nutrition Worker - Cape Breton County - 4 Days Per Week

The Canada Prenatal Nutrition Program offers support services to pregnant people and their families, as well as to infants up to 24 months of age. This support includes the provision of five programs, such as nutritional assessments, supplements, and support services; prenatal education group sessions; playgroup experiences for parents and children aged 0-24 months; and parenting support programs, among others. These services may be provided in both group settings and participants' homes.

The program uses a family-centered, strengths-based approach. Duties and responsibilities include work in the areas of prenatal education and support, community home visiting, program promotion and referral, professional development, administration, reporting, and evaluation.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience
    • University degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education, Health Education, Nutrition, Social Sciences, or related degree;
    • Previous program experience working with or connecting with pregnant people, families and young children;
    • Capacity to deliver programs and services in both official languages; capacity in additional languages is considered an asset;
    • Knowledge of government and community-based programs and services that relate to the intended population's needs.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • The ability to work in multiple languages;
    • Good oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills;
    • Solid problem-solving skills;
    • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain personal/professional boundaries while providing supportive services
    • Knowledge of adult learning principles and group facilitation skills:
    • Additional training in prenatal education, nutrition counselling, and early childhood development would be an asset;
    • Excellent organizational, time, and general management skills;
    • Ability to work effectively with participants and volunteers;
    • Non-judgmental and accepting attitude;
    • Expressed interest in working with families living in difficult life circumstances;
    • Computer literacy;
    • Accurate record-keeping abilities;
    • Ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team; and
    • Ability to follow instructions and make decisions within the parameters of the position.

    • The ability to function both independently and collaboratively;
    • The ability to accommodate a flexible work schedule including evenings and occasional weekends;
    • The ability and willingness to travel;
    • Satisfactory Child Abuse Registry checks and Police Checks; and
    • Access to reliable transportation.

Salary: $22.62 per hour
