Job Summary
The Cancer Care Program is responsible for the delivery of comprehensive cancer services across Newfoundland and Labrador, including screening, systemic and radiation therapy, supportive care, clinical trials, and cancer surveillance. We are currently seeking a Clinical Epidemiologist to support evidence-informed decision-making and improve the planning, delivery, and evaluation of cancer care services throughout the province.
The Clinical Epidemiologist is responsible for the application of population-based and administrative data to assess cancer burden trends, including incidence, stage at diagnosis, and mortality. The successful candidate will provide expert analysis and advice to program leadership on data quality, statistical methodology, and health system performance. This role will also support research and quality initiatives within the Cancer Care Program and contribute to national efforts, such as those led by the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer (CPAC) and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR).
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing data collection strategies, supporting the refresh of national system performance indicators across cancer pathways, and contributing to the pan-Canadian Cancer Data Strategy through involvement with externally funded projects, national workgroups and steering committees. Responsible for the completing objectives and deliverables set forth by the funded projects.
The Clinical Epidemiologist will collaborate with internal colleagues, teams across the zones, and the Department of Health and Community Services. The role also involves reviewing and facilitating external data requests, ensuring rigorous quality assurance and data integrity.

Job Qualifications
Education
Master?s degree in Clinical Epidemiology or Epidemiology in a related discipline is required.
PhD preferred.
Experience
Minimum of five years of experience in applied health research within the last seven is required.
Experience with complex data sets and analyzing data is required.
Experience with research software and Microsoft software is required, knowledge of SAS would be an asset.
Proficiency in report writing and knowledge translation activities including presentation skills.
Experience in a health care setting is preferred.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities)
Knowledge of applied health and epidemiological research methodologies.
Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques and the appropriate application of these approaches and the ability to conduct such analysis.
Ability to manage a multidisciplinary research and quality improvement agenda.
Knowledge of project management techniques and experience leading interdisciplinary research teams to deliver findings within defined deadlines under minimal supervision and direction.
Demonstrated knowledge of statistical and data management.
Demonstrated ability to manage multi projects and research.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with staff at all levels within the organization, both verbally and in writing.
Demonstrated ability to work independently under pressure, highly motivated and in collaboration with others.
