The Opportunity
Reporting to the Deputy City Manager - Community Services, the Director - Community Services is responsible for strategically planning, directing, and managing the activities, operations, and staff of the Recreation Division and other areas of the Community Services Department.
Accountabilities
•Direct the development, implementation and evaluation of programs and services offered by the Recreation Division.
•Select, supervise, monitor and evaluate staff within the Recreation Division and other areas within the Department as required.
•Manage budgets and drive cost efficiencies within the department with a focus on the Recreation Division.
•Analyze current policies and procedures and oversee the development and implementation of new policies and procedures that enable the department to safely and effectively manage and respond to the continued growth of the City and needs of the residents.
•Negotiate contracts and manage lease agreements with outside organizations servicing or using City facilities.
•Liaise with senior municipal and provincial government staff and officials, consultants, neighboring municipalities, community and sport groups, associations, city residents and business owners to identify, develop and nurture partnerships opportunities for program and service delivery.
•Advise and provide recommendations to the Deputy City Manager on broader matters related to the Department of Community Services
•Participate in local and regional committees as required.

Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Recreation/Physical Education, Business Administration or related field. Coursework or background in public administration is considered an asset.
10 years' experience of progressively responsible public recreation or community development related experience in a senior management role preferably with a municipal or provincial government is preferred. Experience in managing the operations of multipurpose sport, recreation and leisure facilities is also considered an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Working Conditions
Work in a typical office environment with travel to other city facilities for internal or external meetings. Travel within the City to other recreation and parks facilities for program and facility oversight. Some provincial or out of province travel to attend meetings and/or conferences.
Hours of Work
Monday to Friday
9:00 AM to 4:30 PM
Applicants must have the flexibility to work evenings and weekends as required to support the Department's programs and services.
