6 Month Contract

The School of Fisheries delivers education and training programs to students interested in entering the aquaculture, fishing, environmental and food industries. Academic programs offered by the School range from industry certifications to diplomas of technology, joint diploma/bachelor degrees, advanced diplomas, post-graduate certificates and master's degrees.

The School of Fisheries is charged with the responsibility of developing and delivering education and training programs required to meet the needs of the seafood harvesting and processing sectors, the agri-foods and the aquaculture industry. These instructors have years of industrial experience and education in harvesting, processing, aquaculture and the marine environmental sectors.

DUTIES

In preparation for training requirements, the School of Fisheries is seeking a qualified instructor to deliver Fishing Master III program (https://www.mi.mun.ca/shortcourses/transportcanadacourses/) and other industry short courses. The successful candidate will be required to instruct the Fishing Master III program with the following courses: Chartwork and Pilotage, Level 2, Communications, Level 1, Ship Construction and Stability Level 2, Meteorology, Level 2, General Ship Knowledge, Level 1 and General Seamanship (FM3-O). This position will be based out of Holyrood, NL.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum possession of a Fishing Masters II Certificate of Competency. A diploma of technology or a university degree in a fisheries-related field would be considered an asset. The successful candidate will have experience with curriculum development; an equivalent combination of education and training may be considered. Excellent oral and written communication skills and computer skills are required. Proven leadership qualities and the ability to work with a motivated, multi-disciplinary team are also required. This position may require travel within Newfoundland & Labrador. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level is an asset.


SALARY: Commensurate with Marine Institute Instructors' Collective Agreement (NAPE Local 7405)
