We are looking for a Mechanical Trades Supervisor (Term) to join our Power Production team. Reporting to the Contracts Manager, you will lead a team of approximately 15 maintenance personnel at our various thermal generating stations during planned maintenance outages.

As a Mechanical Trades Supervisor (Term):
- You will be responsible for supporting various thermal generating stations on an established schedule. This will require travel and reporting to various locations across the province at different times within the term with several weeks between rotations.
- As Mechanical Trades Supervisor will provide leadership, supervision and technical assistance in the maintenance and repair of mechanical equipment throughout the generating station. You will be required to plan maintenance work in co-operation with other functional areas.
- You will be responsible for the scheduling and supervision of maintenance and utility work. You will interact with Senior Management, Supervisory, Planning and Engineering teams, to ensure that work is conducted in a safe and cost-effective manner.
- You will create a work environment that encourages employees to expand their knowledge and skill base thereby adding value to the business.
- You will provide supervision and development of maintenance teams, co-ordinate with other shifts and departments and maintain compliance with environmental regulations.
- You must be committed to the NSPI Safety Program, pro-actively manage safety performance and culture as your priority and demonstrate your ongoing commitment to and participation in the capabilities and leadership development processes.
- You must be able to work effectively as a member of the maintenance and utility team and demonstrate participation in and support for the Competency Based Training program.
- You will be responsible for personal safety, that of co-workers, and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations. You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environment management system processes and initiatives.
- You will complete written reporting including the updating and creation of job procedures, safety documentation and job performance evaluations.
- It is the responsibility of the Mechanical Trades Supervisor to ensure that NSPI is in compliance with all NERC/NPCC reliability standards related to Power Production.

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:
- Possess either a Certification as a Journeyperson Industrial Mechanic, Welder or Pipefitter.
- The successful candidate will possess either a Mechanical Engineering degree eligible for membership with Engineers Nova Scotia, a Mechanical Technologist Diploma eligible for membership with TechNova.
- You must have a minimum of eight (8) years' experience in a modern power generation facility or other heavy industrial environment with a thorough knowledge of preventative maintenance programs, continuous improvement programs and maintenance planning and scheduling.
- You will be an experienced leader with a minimum of five years' experience in a leadership/supervisory mechanical role within heavy industry.
- You will possess strong leadership skills as well as effective communication, computer, and interpersonal skills.
- Applicants demonstrating acumen for working in a fast paced, multi-faceted, mechanical orientated heavy industrial operation would be considered an asset.
- You must hold a valid Nova Scotia Driver's License with a minimum of two years driving experience and provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI.
