We are looking for a Leading Electrician to join our team. Reporting to the Supervisor, Substation Operations, you will join a team of professionals at our Stellarton location.


Key elements of this role include:
  • As a member of the Field Operations team, you will direct and perform all aspects of installation, commissioning, maintenance and repair of electrical plant on the Transmission/Distribution System (e.g. reclosers, breakers, transformers, controls, underground power systems, switches, communication system, etc.)
  • You will lead and direct a team of electricians and complete all necessary documentation.
  • You may be required to travel to other Nova Scotia Power sites throughout the province as required.
  • You will be required to participate in regulatory training and be willing to participate in on-the-job training or training programs that support the development of additional skills.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety, that of co-workers and those under your direction by observing and ensuring compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
  • Your primary residence must be located within 30 minutes of headquarters, and you will be available for after hour emergency service restoration, including rotational standby duty if required.
  • You will be responsible for your personal safety and that of your co-workers by observing all Occupational Health and Safety Rules and Regulations.
  • You will be accountable for environmental performance as it relates to the environmental management system processes and initiatives.
  • This position is considered a safety sensitive position. As such, the successful candidate must comply with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Policy which requires a confidential pre-employment alcohol and drug test in accordance with the Emera Alcohol and Drug Procedure.

To thrive in this role, you recognize yourself in most of the following competencies and skills listed below:

  • Certification as a Journeyman Industrial Electrician with five (5) years' experience with troubleshooting electrical equipment is required. Consideration may be given to those individuals who hold Certification as a Construction Electrician.
  • You have proven problem resolution skills and the flexibility and ability to adapt to rescheduled assignments.
  • You have experience installing and operating a transformer oil processor and advanced abilities in interpreting oil quality data.
  • You must be a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills, a strong computer aptitude and the ability to deal with multiple tasks and demands. Leadership skills, self-motivation and demonstrated ability to work independently are essential.
  • Previous experience with Transmission / Distribution systems would be an asset.
  • You must hold a valid Class 3 Nova Scotia Driver's License with a minimum of 2 years driving experience and provide a driver's abstract satisfactory to NSPI.
  • You are a detailed-oriented individual, working to a high standard.
  • You possess strong customer service and interpersonal skills. You are extremely organized, with a strong ability to multi-task. Strong communication skills (oral, written and computer) are required.
  • You must demonstrate your commitment to personal development.
