The Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick has an immediate vacancy for an English-French translator at the Hansard and Debates Translation Office of the Legislative Assembly, in Fredericton. The mandate of Hansard and Debates Translation is to transcribe, edit, translate, and publish the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly in accordance with the highest professional standards.

The successful candidate will qualify at one of three levels, based on competencies and experience:

Parliamentary Translator I: The Parliamentary Translator I delivers high quality translation services, concentrating on progressive refinement of skills.

Parliamentary Translator II: The Parliamentary Translator II delivers high quality translation services and revises transcribed and translated texts, concentrating on progressive refinement of skills.

Parliamentary Translator III: The Parliamentary Translator III delivers high quality translation of complex documents without revision, revises transcribed and translated texts, advises junior and intermediate translators, and performs various specialized tasks.

Essential Qualifications

Education
A university degree in translation or a related field. Related fields include, but are not limited to, French language and literature, comparative literature taught in both official languages, and French language. Preference will be given to applicants with a degree in translation.
Professional certification in English to French translation would be an asset.

Experience
Parliamentary Translator I: Experience in French to English translation would be an asset.

Parliamentary Translator II: A minimum of two years of experience in English to French translation. Experience in French to English translation would be an asset.

Parliamentary Translator III: A minimum of five years of experience in English to French translation. Experience in French to English translation would be an asset.

Language requirements
Advanced to superior proficiency in spoken and written French and English

Technical Competencies
The successful candidate will possess the following technical competency:

• ability to use office technology, software, and applications.

Experience with using a translation memory such as Trados would be an asset.

Selection process

Only candidates who possess the essential qualifications will be contacted and will be required to write an exam to assess their competencies.

Compensation

• Parliamentary Translator I, pay band 3: $52,442 - $73,268 annually.
• Parliamentary Translator II, pay band 4: $56,616 - $80,574 annually.
• Parliamentary Translator III, pay band 5: $65,936 - $92,092 annually.

• Standard hours of work: Monday-Friday, 8:15-4:30

Extended hours may occasionally be required during the legislativesession.
