Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - Casual
Reports to: Registered Nurse
Status: Unionized; UNIFOR local 4620
Wage: $28.32 - $31.48/hour with shift premiums of $2.35/hour for shifts between 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. and weekends, plus time and a half for shifts worked on holidays.
Schedule: Provide your availability a month in advance and enjoy a dynamic schedule of 8-hour shifts - days, evenings, nights, and/or weekends. Keep in mind that you may often be called in with short notice.
Job Summary: As an LPN, you will play a vital role in delivering compassionate, high-quality care to residents. Your responsibilities will include administering medications, assisting with daily activities, monitoring health conditions, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure residents' well-being. With a focus on dignity, respect, and person-centered care, you will help create a safe and supportive environment where residents can thrive.

Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Administer medications as per Cove policies and protocols.
  • Adheres to organizational documenting and reporting policies.
  • Take initiative to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Communicate effectively with others including residents, co-workers, Management, families and the public.
  • Demonstrate leadership in mentoring and supervising.
  • Follow appropriate chain of command when resolving workplace issues.
  • Actively seek opportunities for personal learning and professional development.
  • Maintain confidentiality in dealings with residents, staff, and Management.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in handling changes in service demands, both in type and quantity.
  • Responsible for carrying out other duties as may be required by the LPN and as determined by the Director of Resident Care.

Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Current certification of registration with NSCN required.
  • Certification in "C" Level CPR/First Aid.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursing and health care practices.
  • Strong clinical, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, problem solve and make decisions.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to adapt to change including new tasks and technologies.
  • Availability to work a schedule of flexible hours and all shifts inclusive of days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis.
  • A clear Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check is required as a condition of employment.
  • A functional assessment is also required as a condition of employment to confirm your ability to meet the physical demands of the job. This will be arranged for you at a later date.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to continuously walk, stand, bend, twist, reach, and move quickly for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Fine motor skills with precise hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
