About the Department/Region
The Labrador Region maintains and supports approximately 250 NL Housing rental properties in the areas served by an office in Goose Bay and a sub-office in Labrador City. The region provides a wide range of services, including receiving and processing rental applications; administering rental accounts and lease compliance provisions; providing various client services and tenant relations including eviction prevention, and monitoring, facilitating and administering property maintenance. A variety of programs designed to support low to moderate income households and homeowners are also delivered. Regional staff members are involved in the delivery of the Provincial Home Repair, Home Modification, Home Energy Savings, Partner Managed Housing, and Rent Supplement Programs.

Salary Scale: $52,062 to $57,616 per annum (CG-26, $25.03 to $27.70per hour), 40 hour work week
Allowances:Labrador Allowance: with dependent $8,939, without $4,529
Travel Allowance: $1,425 for employee and $1,053 per dependent
Duties: The incumbent is responsible for performing skilled repair and refurbishment work on NL Housing owned residential units, including preparing vacant units for occupancy. Work performed includes plastering/painting units, carpentry (including the replacement of doors, windows, siding and cupboards), and plumbing. Work may involve mold/mildew remediation, as well as minor asbestos abatement. The incumbent also determines scope of work in consultation with supervisor, prepares estimates of materials/supplies/labour, and maintains labour/material records. The incumbent will complete work on occupied units and other related duties, as required.
Screening Criteria
Graduation of high school, plus completion of a Carpentry, Painting and Decorating, or Renovation Technician program (equivalencies may be considered)
Experience in residential plastering and painting
Carpentry experience in residential maintenance/construction
Experience in plumbing trade
Journeyperson Certificate of Qualification in Carpentry or Painting & Decorating (Asset)
Assessment Criteria
Knowledge of the plastering and painting trade, including the use and care of the tools of the trade
Knowledge of the methods and practices of the carpentry trade, including the use and care of tools of the trade
Knowledge of plumbing trade, including the use and care of the tools of the trade
Knowledge of National Building Code
Ability to estimate materials/supplies and labour
Ability to effectively exchange information
Ability to manage time and tasks while working independently
