Faith Based Services is to provide chaplain services, reintegration supports and programs for adult custody clients. Faith Based Services provides site-based chaplains for all adult custody clients and supports youth at Miramichi Youth Campus. The Chaplain team is led by the Manager of Chaplain Services who provides oversight to chaplains at all five provincial correctional centres. We believe people can change.

What you will do

  • To provide religious, spiritual and pastoral care to provincial clients of all approved faith practices
  • Originate, direct, facilitate, and coordinate religious services, rites, rituals and spiritual educational activities as appropriate to offenders
  • Interacting and dialoging with members of the community, including multiple faith communities, concerning their role in chaplaincy and restorative processes
  • Local Engagement Committee (LEC lead)
  • To recognize international occurrences that may affect clients and provide supports and resources
  • To work with the Correctional Case Manager(s) to provide supports and assistance (if required) with client correctional case plan
  • Support and resource for staff (critical & major incidents, personal support)
  • In collaboration with the department maintain accurate data collection and assessment to ensure compliance and evaluation of effective chaplaincy service delivery (CIS)

Your attitude, skills and interests are just as important as your area of study. We are looking for diverse backgrounds that bring a combination of the following:

Need to have:

  • Minimum of three years' experience in ongoing/continuous religious/spiritual service provision as a qualified, professional, official representative of his/her faith or spiritual community.
  • Bachelor's degree in Religious Studies or comparable discipline from an accredited college or university.
  • Ordination or licensure by a recognized ecclesiastical body is required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to undergo a criminal history clearance and security clearance check.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English is required. Please state your language capability.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The following operational requirement is also required:

  • Must posses a valid class 5 driver's licence

Wage
$2,017.00 - $2,818.00 Biweekly based on education and experience
