DUTIES

As a new strategic position within Memorial's Pension Services Office, the Manager, Financial Accounting and Investments will play a critical role in leading the financial accounting and investment activities for Memorial University's pension plan. Reporting to the Director, Pension Services, the Manager, Financial Accounting and Investments will manage a team and be responsible for the strategic investment, day-today monitoring and oversight of the pension plan's $2.4 billion investment portfolio.

The incumbent will lead the selection process and evaluation of external investment managers, including conducting searches and making recommendations on appointments and terminations; and oversee market reviews and selection of the investment consultant, pension fund custodian and tax advisors. As the primary liaison with the pension plan's investment service providers, the successful applicant will manage account creation, service delivery, contract management, and performance.

Additional responsibilities include duties related to onboarding and terminating investment managers, coordinating cash flows and leading regular strategy and performance meetings. In addition to overseeing investment activities, the Manager will provide leadership in all aspects of financial accounting related to the pension plan. This includes managing financial reporting for plan operations, such as investment income reporting, cash flow preparation, and the preparation of annual audited financial statements, while ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

The incumbent will develop frameworks for investment-related financial operations and support the development and implementation of internal controls to safeguard pension assets and ensure accurate recognition of plan assets and liabilities. The Manager will also liaise with the University financial systems personnel on matters related to system operations and enhancements, and perform all other related duties as required.
