Job Summary
The Speech Language Pathologist (SLP) is an integral member of the Development Team and participates with other team members to ensure a comprehensive service is provided to patients. The SLP will be required to provide consultation into the child's care settings and home environment. Care is delivered on an outpatient basis in liaison with community agencies including Early Childhood Educators, Public Health Nursing and Community Health Professionals. Duties include assessment, diagnosing and treating communication and language disorders in preschool children. Client management includes identifying functional issues, completion of assessments, setting goals and objectives, providing intervention, establishing outcomes and follow up plan in consultation with client and family. This position may be required to provide inpatient acute care coverage, as well as coverage service in Long Term Care.

This position reports to the Regional Manager for Allied Health and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Speech Language Pathology for integrity and professional practice issues.

The Speech Language pathologist will be responsible to precept Speech-Language Pathology students and offer other clinical education experiences to students within NLHS.

Occasionally, there is lifting or physical strength required (i.e. lifting up to 25 lbs. while carrying boxes of resources/materials, flip charts and audio-visual equipment for group work activities, Sits or stands to consult with clients, conduct therapeutic sessions, work on the computer or occasionally works in awkward or cramped body positions.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with a Master's Degree in Speech Language Pathology from an approved/recognized program is required.
Current registration with the NL Council of Health Professionals is required.
A condition of employment includes the use of a personal vehicle.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
