Job SummaryThe Clinical Pharmacist III reports to the Zone Manager for St. Clare?s/MHAC and performs multi-site work as part of the pharmacy leadership team to provide direction and leadership to Clinical Pharmacist II's, Clinical Pharmacist I's, and Pharmacy Technicians. This position shares frontline responsibilities with the leadership team and performs specialized pharmaceutical work. The Clinical Pharmacist III acts as a liaison with divisional managers, physicians, nurses, other health care employees as well as external stakeholders. Duties involve planning, developing and implementing policies, procedures and protocols, maintaining effective communication with the pharmacy service, acting as a resource for health professionals and committees.

This position assumes primary oversight and daily supervision of staff of non-hazardous sterile preparation activities and training at the site and within the Eastern Zones and acts as the coordinator for the Community IV Program. Responsibilities for non-hazardous sterile preparation activities encompass application of national standards, non-hazardous sterile compounding standards, accreditation standards, involvement with continuous improvement processes (IV Workflow Implementation) and implementation and monitoring of quality assurance programs (Omni-Assistant System Administrator). The Clinical Pharmacist III undertakes activities to support the mandate of the Provincial Pharmacy Program including participation in provincial, zone and site committees and working groups. Training responsibilities include coordination and development of orientation and training programs for new staff and continuing education of pharmacy staff at all sites in Eastern Zones and providing presentations to pharmacy staff or other health professionals.

The position has shared responsibilities with the leadership team which include daily operational scheduling and supervision of staff at the St. Clare?s site. Additional duties include assisting the manager with coaching and performance check-in, investigation and follow-up of occurrence reports, development and implementation of regional policies and procedures, and a shared role in Accreditation planning and application.

This position maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Pharmacy for integrity and professional practice issues. This position assumes responsibility for direction and provision of pharmacy services in the absence of the pharmacy manager and may be required to be Pharmacist-in-Charge in accordance to the CPNL Pharmacy Act.

Constantly uses fine finger/precision work using hand tools; visual concentration is required to read and interpret drug orders, calculate dosages, ensure medications are dispensed properly, read clinical studies, drug monographs, patient specific laboratory results, and to inspect and check drug amounts/preparations.
High level of alertness and concentration is required to do this work.
Works under tight time pressures with an unpredictable work pace.
Personal Protection Equipment including restrictive masks maybe worn for extended period of time as required to limit to exposure to hazardous materials.

Job Qualifications
Graduation from a recognized School of Pharmacy is required.
Doctorate of Pharmacy or Completion of a Hospital Residency Program would be considered an asset.
Current licensure with the Newfoundland and Labrador Pharmacy Board and membership with the Pharmacists Association of Newfoundland and Labrador is required.
Minimum of five years of experience within the last seven as a Clinical Pharmacist is required.
Demonstrated leadership in developing and implementing specialty pharmacy services and programs.
Demonstrated administrative leadership in policy development, occupational health and safety, quality assurance programming, accreditation standards, and staff education and training.
Demonstrated strong conflict management skills including the ability to resolve staffing issues.
Demonstrated effective communication, both verbally and in writing with co-workers, patients and their families.
Demonstrated ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.
Demonstrated ability to maintain a strong working relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
Demonstrated a high level of self-direction and independence.
Proven ability to assume professional responsibility for safe, ethical and effective practice.
A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
