Requirements:

  • Minimum prerequisite is secondary education, combined with a minimum one year of experience cleaning and servicing vehicles. General mechanical or technical training in the automotive industry is preferred
  • A valid class 5 driver's license with air-break endorsement a requirement, class 2 licence is preferred
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Ability to work shiftwork
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to operate small machinery and tools needed for general repair and maintenance
  • Knowledge and understanding of automotive repair and equipment
  • General vehicle maintenance and vehicle detailing experience
  • Experience driving a transit bus considered an asset
  • General skills in repair and maintenance of metal structures

Are you passionate about keeping your community moving safely and efficiently? The Transit Division is seeking a dedicated and reliable Service Worker to join our team.

In this vital support role, you'll help ensure the cleanliness, maintenance, and readiness of our transit fleet and transit bus stops-contributing directly to the quality and reliability of public transportation services. You will be performing general services on all transit division vehicles and bus stops as well as other related duties. What You'll Do: Service Worker hours could be scheduled between 5:30am and 1am seven days a week over a forty-hour work week. Core duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Check and top up fluids daily on all vehicles and clean entire interior and exterior of all transit vehicles;
  • Special cleaning such as pressure washing and vacuuming as well as checking ramps and cleaning them;
  • Clean interior windows, shampoo seats and thorough cleaning of driver area;
  • Perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance to all transit vehicles;
  • Ensure all signage on interior and exterior of all equipmentis present and in good repair;
  • Exchange transit vehicles with in-service vehicles when directed;
  • Empty fareboxes regularly andPerform other related duties as assigned;
  • General repairs and upkeep on all shelters and immediate repair and/ or replacement to broken shelters/glass/benches;
  • Remove debris in around all stops regularly;
  • Mow grass or remove snow/spread ice melt products around shelter/stop areas as per Service Standards;
  • Inspect stops for any infrastructure issues (i.e. concrete, bent sign posts, etc.);
  • General maintenance (painting, minor repairs,etc.);
  • Install new shelters;
  • Monitor and report all pad installations for stops and shelters;
  • Respond to specific requests from Transit management.

What You Bring:

  • Valid Class 2 NB driver's license with Air Brake endorsement is desired, but a minimum Class 5 is required;
  • Clear Drivers Abstract;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees;
  • Knowledge and understanding of automotive repair and equipment;
  • General vehicle maintenance and vehicle detailing experience;
  • Experience driving a transit bus considered an asset;
  • General skills in repair and maintenance of metal structures.
