Scotia Investments Limited is seeking a Controller to join their high-performing team. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Shared Services, the Controller will be part of the finance team, and an integral part of the services Scotia Investments Limited provide to their companies. With a focus on BioMedica Diagnostics (70%), Crown Fibre Tube (20%), and Morse Machining (10%), the Controller will be actively involved in strategic planning and oversight, including the annual budget process, 3-year strategic plans, and 5-year capital asset plans. This role will lead a team of three accounting staff.
As an integral part of the Shared Service functions for our growing organization, the Controller will be responsible for leadership of the finance departments, ownership of the General Ledger, maintaining and improving processes, preparation/review of financial statements and internal/external reporting. The Controller will ensure the provision of accurate information for Senior Leadership decision-making through analysis, budgeting, forecasting, and preparation of financial reports. Throughout 2026-27, the Controller will be a key contributor to the Conversion Team, as they transition from Sage 300 to NetSuite.
Responsibilities will include:
- Development and analysis of monthly, quarterly and annual financial results.
- Overseeing and managing accounting and administrative personnel and their functions.
- Establishing monthly and annual budgets with capital requirements in conjunction with the leadership team.
- Providing timely and accurate analysis of financial statements, budgets, financial trends, and forecasts.
- Leading and directing the development of short and long-term strategic financial objectives and in-depth financial analysis.
- Participating in leadership functions for your team such as employee selection, performance management, and employee development.
- Establishing, maintaining, and enforcing corporate accounting and operational policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Presenting the financial results to CEO/CFO monthly.
- Liaising with external audit team and preparing financial statements.
- Tracking and reporting on key performance indicators and producing an assortment of operational reports on a monthly and quarterly basis.
- Researching funding opportunities and completion of applications, claims, and reporting as required.
- Other duties as required to support the ever-growing Scotia Investments Family of Companies.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- CPA designation.
- 5+ years experience in a progressive management role leading a small team.
- Advanced and proven abilities in Excel and other Microsoft software.
- Experience in NetSuite, Sage300 or other like-sized ERP systems will be considered an asset.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment will be considered an asset.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Advanced analytical skills, coupled with excellent organizational skills.
