The Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) is a locally controlled, non-share capital corporation, which took over the management of Halifax Stanfield International Airport (Halifax Stanfield, airport code YHZ) from Transport Canada on February 1, 2000. Since then, their organization has helped ensure Halifax Stanfield, which is a key community and economic asset, can continue to provide the world-class service for which it has become internationally known. As a community-based organization, all profits are reinvested back into the airport and the region.
On behalf of our client, we are currently recruiting for a Senior Manager, Security to join their team of dedicated professionals on-site in Goffs, Nova Scotia.
Reporting directly to the Vice President, Sustainability & Risk, the Senior Manager, Security will lead the continuous development, implementation, and oversight of a comprehensive security management system for Halifax International Airport Authority. The Senior Manager, Security will act as a key advisor and subject matter expert on security matters, working collaboratively with senior management, airport stakeholders, and government partners to maintain the highest security standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and execution of a security management system to address current and emerging threats and ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate security risks associated with airport operations.
- Manage the day-to-day security operations at Halifax Stanfield to ensure a safe and secure environment for employees, passengers, tenants and guests.
- Oversight of airport security operations, leading a team of security professionals and third party security service providers to ensure 24/7 coverage and response.
- Oversee security response plans, lead investigations into security breaches, and coordinate with law enforcement and regulators during emergencies.
- Leverage innovative approaches to security management in a complex airport environment.
- Drive initiatives to shape and enhance a security conscious culture.
- Prepare budget and resource management plans, including developing the security budget, negotiating contracts with third-party security service providers, and finding opportunities for cost-saving initiatives while maintaining high-quality services.
- Identify and implement advanced security technologies, staying abreast of emerging innovations to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Manage the security services and policing services contracts.
- Cultivate strong, positive relationships across the organization and airport community.
- Use metrics and KPIs to track and measure the effectiveness of the security management system, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and demonstrating return on investment.
Requirements:
- Post secondary education in security management, criminal justice, business administration, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in managing and conducting security operations including physical security, investigations and crisis management.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive security leadership experience.
- Proven track record in strategic planning, program development, and transformational leadership.
- Astute budget and resource management.
- Deep understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and policies, with a proactive approach to compliance.
- Strong communication, presentation, and project management skills with the ability to engage and influence at all levels of the organization.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders, including executive leaders, airport partners and stakeholders, government agencies, and law enforcement.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and de-escalate conflicts as needed.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- High level of discretion, integrity, and decision-making ability.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Physical Security Professional (PSP), or equivalent are highly desirable.
