Position Description

St. Francis Xavier University, one of Canada's leading universities and most prominent athletics programs, is seeking a Sales and Marketing Coordinator to join our passionate varsity athletics program. Reporting to the Manager, Varsity Athletics and Communications, the Sales and Marketing Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing innovative marketing strategies, promoting athletic events, managing ticket sales, securing and servicing corporate partnerships, and engaging with the community to support varsity programs. The successful candidate shall manage and develop marketing and promotional strategies to increase brand affinity; grow the STFX fan base, enhance the fan experience and grow revenue streams.

The responsibilities of this position are accomplished through collaboration and teamwork with other Athletic department staff as well as other university departments. This will be done in a context where we commit to providing the premier student-athlete experience in Canada, which focuses on developing and inspiring Leaders & Champions in academics, athletics, citizenship and leadership. The Sales and Marketing Coordinator is expected to represent STFX University to the highest standards of personal and professional conduct, promote values-based sport, and comply with all AUS, U SPORTS and STFX University regulations and policies.

The nature of the work requires that the Coordinator work non-standard hours which includes evenings and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement and oversee ticket sales strategies for all athletic events;
  • Identify, secure, cultivate and maintain departmental corporate partnerships, ensuring value for sponsorship activations;
  • Engage with the local community (businesses, community organizations, campus groups, etc.) to build relationships through the organization of community events and outreach programs;
  • Track, analyze and report marketing campaign performance and sales results through the understanding of the changing landscape of sales and marketing;
  • Develop and implement marketing campaigns for all athletic programs through the creation and management of digital, social media, email, and print marketing materials;
  • Assist with the coordination and execution of all varsity games and annual departmental special events through a marketing and promotional context, ensuring a positive and memorable experience for attendees;
  • Plan, coordinate and execute all advertising, promotional activities and initiatives for varsity events;
  • Train and supervise part-time employees involved in the delivery of game day marketing and promotions;
  • Assist with the maintenance of the departmental website and all AUS & U SPORTS marketing requirements;

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in marketing, business or related field with a minimum of two years' experience in athletic operations;
  • Proficient knowledge of sports marketing and advertising, with a strength to deliver strong sales and marketing skills;
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Superior time management, organizational and project management skills; experience in event planning and management is an asset;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of the team, while commanding the respect of athletics colleagues, coaches, university colleagues, alumni, media, and the corporate community;
  • Critical thinker/ability to conceptualize and analyze with strong attention to detail;
  • Strategically focused, creative, natural curiosity; healthy skepticism;
  • Obvious passion and enthusiasm with a keen interest in sports and higher education; an overall team player.
