What you will be doing…
This position is located in the Northern Region at Truro Campus. As the Building Services Assistant you will:
- Provide general building maintenance services and may assist in the delivery of custodial-related duties throughout the campus.
- Provide routine information and answer inquiries. Your work will be performed according to established NSCC standards and guidelines.
- Hours of work are thirty-five (35) hours per week. Shift work and on-call duties may be required.
Qualifications and Occupational Experience:
- The minimum educational qualification for this position is a high school diploma or recognized equivalent (GED) or willingness to attain a high school diploma or GED within the probationary period. Training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations would be considered an asset, as would Standard first aid and CPR. Possession of a valid NS Driver's License would also be considered an asset.
- Building Environment Systems (BES) Level 1 would be considered an asset.
- You have a minimum of two years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in a building maintenance related field or two years (full-time equivalent) of recent and related experience in one or more of the general building trades.
- You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, e-mail Experience in Megamation, Adobe PDF software, and Building Automation software is considered an asset.
- Occupational experience that includes commercial building maintenance or property management would be considered an asset.
- You have demonstrated experience providing general maintenance duties including conducting mechanical and operational inspections and providing routine scheduled maintenance to mechanical and life-safety systems. This position will also assist service contractors and trades people in completing assigned tasks.

- Basic knowledge of general building maintenance related to the mechanical aspects of all equipment in a public facility (i.e. HVAC, sprinkler, air conditioning, boilers and swimming pools).
- You have a proven ability to follow instructions.
- You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to coordinating services, work orders, and cleaning service, when required)
- You possess a trade, or you possess experience providing assistance to a trade, specifically in plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and/or controls.

- You are able to perform all physical duties of the job as required for the operation and maintenance of the facilities and operation of small hand tools and shop equipment.
