The GIS & Asset Management Coordinator is accountable for the technical oversight and operational management of the organization's GIS & Asset Management infrastructure. The role focuses on the development, implementation and maintenance of spatial databases, delivering quality products, analytical outputs and supporting cross-departmental collaboration. The Coordinator will also provide technical expertise, troubleshoot system issues, optimize GIS & AM strategies, standards and procedures. This position plays a key role in implementing solutions to streamline operations and enhance data-driven decision making.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and maintenance of GIS and Asset Management databases (Oracle), tools, and applications (ArcOnline, Enterprise, Experience Builder, VFA).
  • Develop and maintain Python scripts to automate geospatial workflows and enhance data processing efficiency
  • Serve as the primary Build Nova Scotia (BNS) contact for ArcGIS Online and Enterprise support and coordination.
  • Coordinate GIS initiatives across departments to ensure data consistency and support strategic goals. (Cell Gap, Housing, Waterfront Applications & Events).
  • Provide technical GIS and data management support to Provincial Programs (CLIP, Climate Change Action Plan, Provincial Dams Group, etc.)
  • Generate asset-related reports and dashboards to support maintenance, scheduling and budgeting of Asset Management information.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving GIS technologies and recommend system enhancements.
  • Oversee data integrity, maintain workflow documentation and ensure adherence metadata and data governance standards.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in a related field (Geomatics, Geography, Environmental Science) plus five (5) years of relevant experience or diploma in geomatics from a recognized institution with eight (8) years of experience.

Strong understanding of GIS principles, data management and system architecture, with demonstrated expertise in GIS technologies, tools, data quality, standards/and policy development.

Detail-oriented with strong communication, presentation & project coordination skills.

Experience working with Oracle databases.

Proficiency in Python & Arcade for scripting and automation.

Considered an Asset:

Experience leading user engagement and supporting data strategies in technical cross-functional environment.

Familiarity with Asset Management software, particularly VFA or similar platforms.
