Under the direction of the Parking Operations Manager, and Parking Maintenance Supervisor, the Parking Maintenance Assistant performs quality basic labor and mechanical repair work within the Parking service area. Work includes tasks required to operate and maintain parking lots and garage facilities and the maintenance of parking meters.

Reporting Structure

The Parking Maintenance Assistant receives direction from the Parking Maintenance Supervisor, or Operations Manager within the Parking Service Area. The Parking Maintenance Assistant is expected to assist less experienced workers in completing tasks safely and to a high standard of quality, as and when necessary.

Key duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Operations

•Maintain parking lots and garages through daily tasks, as well as complete any related seasonal maintenance as required.
•Performs daily checks on parking equipment to ensure proper operation and general appearance. Responds to requests related to broken parking equipment, troubleshoots problems and repairs equipment as needed and/or works with third party vendors to resolve the problem.
•Adheres to cash handling policies and procedures while retrieving cash from parking meters. Prepares, and completes with accuracy a weekly bank deposit of parking meter revenue and keeps accurate records of deposit information.
•Performs assigned tasks of a general maintenance nature.
•Operates and maintains the tools and equipment required to complete general maintenance tasks, including motorized equipment with attachments to complete assigned tasks within the area of service.
•Uses respectful communication to assist the public with their questions, problems, and concerns, relay information to Operations Manager or Parking Maintenance Supervisor, as necessary.
•Follows detailed task descriptions and completes all required checklists, reports or other documentation.

•Complies with all rules and legislation, including Acts and Regulations pertaining to the operation of equipment, special procedures and on-the-job safety practices.
•Carries out high quality and safe work in accordance with recognized workplace standards and policies.
•Strives to ensure attention to quality and safety in all work, including safety of the general public who use the infrastructure or systems involved.

Working Conditions

At times, incumbents perform physical labour for extended periods. Other working conditions include lifting heavy loads (up to 22 kg), moving on rough or unsteady surfaces, and making repetitive movements such as bending or lifting. Employees are exposed to a variety of weather conditions (e.g., rain, snow and extremes of heat and cold), noise, dust, and chemicals.

•Regular working schedule is 40 hours weekly, Monday to Friday, however, schedule is subject to change and may vary
•Willingness to work overtime (paid) beyond regular hours, as requested
•On-call rotation
•Willingness to work alone during irregular hours.

Required Skills and Abilities

•Ability to properly use common hand and power tools
•Handling of cash and general math skills
•Communicate effectively, verbal and written required
•Computer literacy including use of Microsoft Office Suite

Essential Qualifications:

•High school diploma or equivalent.
•Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
•Criminal record check.

Additional job-related training may be required to complete the full range of the role.
