Responsibilities

Reporting to the Academic Chair of Civil & Building Technologies with functional direction from both Civil Engineering Technology and Oceans Technology program Faculty, you will:

  • Provide support for activities related to the materials testing laboratory, surveying, and Ocean Technology shop, along with program and administrative assistance for the Civil & Building Technologies Department program portfolio.
  • Oversee the laboratory/shop spaces by managing the lab environment. Prepare equipment for surveying and laboratory activities.
  • Assist in the classroom & field with lab demonstrations. Prepare projects and mock-ups as needed. Aid faculty with administrative preparation for lab activities, technology needs, and work collaboratively with students, Faculty and staff in a laboratory & field setting to support learning.
  • Assist Faculty with the safe operation of tools & equipment, ensuring adherence to safe work practices.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • You have a minimum of five years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in working with civil materials, geotechnical work, and surveying.
  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a rRelevant post secondary diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or other Construction Technology disciplines along with relevant Tech Nova certification as a Technician or Technologist . In addition, you possess training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations as well as Standard First Aid, CPR and discipline relevant safety training or you have a willingness to obtain during employment.
  • Occupational experience that includes materials testing in a civil materials lab and marine sector experience would be considered an asset.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite including MS Teams and e-mail
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered an asset.

  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to managing inventory and supplies, coordinating schedules, and maintaining civil engineering equipment including surveying equipment.
  • You have proven records and information management skills and abilities.
  • You are dedicated to life-long learning and have maintained currency in civil engineering practices.
