The Faculty of Education at Mount Saint Vincent University invites applications for the position of Practicum Coordinator.

Responsibilities

The Practicum Coordinator is primarily responsible for the School Placement (Practicum) for B.Ed. Students. This position works closely with the Director of Teacher Education and reports to the Dean of Education. The School Placement (Practicum) Coordinator's main responsibility is to organize, and monitor the school practicum placements for Elementary and Secondary Bachelor of Education students.

  • Consult with school boards (Provincial and National) to support the placement of students for Elementary and Secondary practicum placements which include critical subject/grade level criterion.
  • Collect and review all placement requests, and secure supervisors for practicum placements.
  • Serve as first contact for any issues identified during the practicum placements, escalating concerns to the appropriate person.
  • Provide academic advice to current and prospective B.Ed students as needed.
  • Conduct practicum placement information session and practicum seminars for B.Ed. students during Year 1 orientation week, and facilitate workshop sessions with practicum supervisors.
    Serve as a member of the Inter-University Committee on Teacher Education (ICTE) and carry out joint responsibilities with counterparts at Acadia University, Cape Breton University, Universite de Ste. Anne and St. Francis Xavier.

In addition, the position provides support to course instructors through coordinating the Community Placement Program offered to second year Bachelor of Education students and maintains ongoing communication with the B.Ed. Committee on the Community Program

Qualifications

The preferred candidate will have a Bachelor of Education degree with teacher certification and a minimum of three years of teaching experience. A Masters of Education degree is considered an asset. A strong commitment to excellent customer service and dedication to building strong relationships is required. Also required is a motivated team player and independent thinker. Candidates should be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), and have an aptitude for, or previous experience, using business enterprise systems such as Colleague and Sharepoint.
