Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Engineering (Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering).
  • Registered Professional Engineer of New Brunswick.
  • Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressive responsibility experience.
  • Knowledge of municipal specifications relating to water and sewer system design, construction and operation, as well as basic groundwater hydrogeology and contaminant hydrogeology.
  • Understand and interpret the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality specifically microbiology (bacteria, virus, protozoan), inorganic and organic chemistry.
  • Understand AWWA Standards C651, C652, C653, C654 Disinfection of water mains, water storage facilities, water treatment plants and wells.

The City of Fredericton is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Engineer to lead in safeguarding one of our most vital resources: clean, safe drinking water.

In this role, you will take responsibility for the quality and compliance of the City of Fredericton's municipal drinking water system. The successful candidate will act as the City's technical authority, and will ensure adherence to the Province's regulatory standards and lead the development, implementation, and oversight of systems that serve thousands of residents every day. As the Senior Engineer of Water & Sewer you will work across departments - collaborating with engineers, operations teams, and senior leadership to design and support water and wastewater infrastructure that meet today's needs and anticipates tomorrow's challenges. With a strong understanding in hydrogeology and water system design, you will also play a critical role in protecting Fredericton's groundwater aquifer for future generations.

What You'll Do:

  • Overall responsibility for the City of Fredericton's drinking water quality.
  • Maintain City's water systems regulatory compliance with NB Dept of Environment and Health (Certificate of Approval W-2341).
  • Water and wastewater technical resource for Engineering and Operations Department.
  • Instructor of National Water Works Operators Training Program for Water & Sewer Division staff.
  • Coordinate Water & Sewer requirements with Engineer and Operations Development Engineers.
  • Protect the City of Fredericton's groundwater supply aquifer.
  • Maintain budget control of project assignments (Annual well regeneration, consultants, production well development etc.)
  • Technical resource for Engineering and Operations Department and Planning Department.
  • Develop and Review technical specifications for Request for Proposals.
  • Write, amend water & sewer related City By-laws.
  • Advice - guidance to Manager of Water and Sewer Division and Director of Engineering and Operations.
  • Provide guidance to the Water & Sewer division's GIS Technician.

What You Bring:

  • Knowledge of City Municipal Specifications - municipal water and sewer system design, construction, operation.

  • Communicate effectively with various stakeholders both internal and external (Planning, Purchasing, Plumbing Inspectors, NB Department of Environment, etc.)
  • Ability to present - Media spokesperson for the Water & Sewer Division on water quality matters, presentations to City Council committees.
