The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Senior Engineer, Maintenance to join our Maintenance and Projects team in Sudbury, Ontario. This is a permanent position.

As a Sr. Engineer, Maintenance, you will be responsible for on-site technical maintenance support, engineering, screening/scoping, repair scopes of work and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the plant, as well as delivering improved performance of the assets by implementing and optimizing the availability and reliability of Copper Cliff Nickel Refinery and Electrowinning.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Deliver on-site technical support for both proactive maintenance and reactive troubleshooting, ensuring rapid recovery from equipment failures and implementing corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Lead engineering and integrity assessments to verify asset health, identify potential defects, and ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing maintenance data, optimizing repair cycles, and applying Vale engineering standards to enhance asset reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Evaluate and recommend equipment design improvements and emerging technologies for condition monitoring, collaborating with Central Engineering and vendors to support innovation and reliability.
  • Coordinate cross-functional efforts with Operations, Maintenance, Procurement, Project Engineering, and OEMs to align maintenance strategies with production goals and capital planning.
  • Optimize maintenance planning and execution, including lifecycle strategy updates, precision maintenance documentation, work order prioritization, and backlog management to ensure timely and effective task completion.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and support complex troubleshooting efforts, applying cost-benefit analysis to maintenance decisions and ensuring alignment with plant performance targets.

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in mechanical or electrical engineering required.
  • Licensed P.Eng in Ontario.
  • Certified Maintenance Reliability Professional (CMRP) and/or Maintenance Management Professional (MMP) certification is preferred

Experience:

  • 5+ years of maintenance, reliability and/or engineering experience
  • Experience with equipment maintenance execution and work management processes in mineral processing plants is preferred
  • Strong experience with Failure Investigations, development and implementation of effective solutions to reduce looses
  • Experience with inspection of installation, modification and commissioning of infrastructure and equipment
  • Experience in conducting research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of mechanisms, components and systems
  • Experience with FMEA,RCM and managing metrics such as Availability, Utilization, Productivity (OEE), MTBF and MTTR

Skills:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, planning, organizational and time management skills.
  • Software skills in of MS Office products and CMMS systems (SAP).
