Salary: In accordance with the current collective agreement between The Public Alliance of Canada Union and Treasury Board.
You will be responsible for creating and managing partnerships and volunteers on behalf of the schools in your region. Working with the Community Engagement
Coordinator, your knowledge of the communities you serve will assist in identifying local resources and opportunities.
As a school-based Community School Coordinator, you will work with the Principals of individual schools to implement both district-wide community programs as well as
special initiatives that are unique to each school. You will be responsible for ensuring that proper communication with the Principals of each school is undertaken and that
all partnership activity supports the identified needs of the school. Much of your time will be spent managing schedules for the community-based individual support
services at your schools. Ensuring that all volunteers have received the proper training and have been cleared through all the necessary channels (criminal record check,
Policy 701 training, etc.) will also be part of your regular duties. Matching volunteers with the identified students/teachers/activities in cooperation with the Principal will
play a major role as well.
You will report directly to the Community Engagement Coordinator on best practices and new partnerships developed so that the maintenance and growth of the
community-based activities can be monitored at the District level.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Working with School Principals and the community Engagement Coordinator to develop long-term strategic plans for local
community and business involvement with the school. Ensuring volunteers and community resources which deal directly with students in the school have been adequately cleared and trained.
- Ensuring that the physical premises and equipment used by any community group are left in proper condition after use
- Promoting and creating local partnerships to support schools' needs
- Participating in the hands-on delivery of special programs in the school that have developed as a Community Schools initiative
- Maintaining records and schedules of all community-based activities at the school
- In cooperation with the Principal, acting as a liaison between the school and community reporting regularly to the Community Engagement Coordinator
- Being the first line of contact for concerns expressed by any community group and reporting concerns to the Community School Committee and/or Principal
- Ensuring that barriers and challenges that restrict community use of school are mitigated
Qualifications:
Work at the School Business Official level requires competence normally gained through the equivalent of a University Degree in a non-technical area, or a two (2) year
Community College program supplemented by a minimum of four (4) years of related work experience. Typical work at this level is done within well-defined, somewhat
diversified procedures, with many precedents covering most situations and/or readily available assistance. Duties may include identifying issues for action, providing
advisory, coordination or other important support services for use by others in achieving results.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
You must demonstrate excellent organizational and communication skills. You are a strong multi-tasker. You must have a thorough working knowledge of the schools and the local communities that you serve and be able to identify and catalogue the needs of the school and available community resources. Candidates must be able to work independently, as well as in a team environment with the Principals and the District Coordinator. Hours of work must be flexible, responding to the needs of the school and community, involving some evening and weekend work. A background in Community or Partnership Development, Social Work and/or Education will be considered a strong asset and a thorough working knowledge of local businesses and community resources would be preferred.

This is an open competition; however, in accordance with Public Service Alliance of Canada Union Collective Agreement, should unionized employees under this bargaining group apply, employees shall be selected on the basis of skill, ability, competence and qualifications. Where skill, qualifications and ability are relatively equal amongst union applicants, the vacancy will be filled on the basis of seniority.
