Salary range: $46,690.30 to $54,832.37 annually (pro-rated based on months worked)

Responsibilities

What you will be doing…

Reporting to the Academic Chair, with functional guidance from Natural Resources Environmental Technology Faculty, you will:

  • Provide field-site/shop, program and administrative support for the Natural Resources Environmental Technology program.
  • Maintain the field-site(s)/shop by managing the field-site(s)/shop environment, media and/or equipment preparation, and maintenance of the inventory system for lab/shop supplies.

  • Assist with field-site(s)/shop demonstrations; provide administrative preparation for the field-site(s)/shop, assist with technology needs, including computers; and work with students, Faculty and staff in a field-site(s)/shop setting.

  • Assist in classroom and lab/shop demonstrations and prepare projects and mock-ups in advance of the need.
  • Assist Faculty with the safe operation of tools and equipment and safe work practices.
Qualifications

Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

  • The minimum educational qualification for this position is a relevant post-secondary diploma or certification in natural resources, forestry, or another natural resources related discipline.
  • You have a minimum of five years (full time equivalent) of recent and related occupational experience in supporting field-based activities or working in a related resource field.
  • In addition, you possess training in WHMIS and Occupational Health and Safety regulations as well as Standard First Aid, CPR and discipline relevant safety training or you have a willingness to obtain within the first year. Wilderness First Aid and/or a Class 4 Driver's License would be considered an asset.
  • You possess a valid Class 5 Driver's License and are eligible and willing to obtain a Class 4 Driver's License.
  • You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail, and basic GIS applications.
  • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology in advancing your work.
  • Experience in training/facilitation preparation, delivery and evaluation would be considered an asset.
  • Experience supporting/providing service to students and prospective students would be considered.

  • You possess excellent coordination skills specifically related to planning and implementing field work activities.

  • You have proven records and information management skills and abilities specifically related to tool and equipment inventory.

  • You have the physical capacity to work in outdoor environments. You can carry 20kg of equipment across varied terrain (woods, marine habitat, etc.) in a variety of weather conditions.

  • Candidates must be capable of walking between five to eight kilometers and spending five to six hours away from amenities, as needed for field-based learning activities.
