OFF-SITE CONSTRUCTION RESEARCH CENTRE
The Off-Site Construction Research Centre (OCRC) is a multi-disciplinary research centre that conducts research in a variety of topic areas, including digital technology implementation, constructability, Lean construction, policy, and standardization. They OCRC's activities focus on applied research in collaboration with over 60 industry partners and are guided by an Executive Board composed primarily of private sector executives.

Standard Work Hours: Mon - Fri | 7:45 am - 4:00 pm | 36.25 hours per week (Summer Hours)

Salary Range: $65,068 - $88,681 per annum (as of July 1st, 2025)

YOUR FOCUS

Reporting to the Director, Innovation and Operations, the Project Engineer will work closely with staff and investigators to support research projects related to off-site construction. This role contributes to the development of industry-driven research initiatives and will assist in coordinating research activities, supporting industry partnerships and dissemination findings through presentation and publications.

  • Support and contribute to research projects focused on off-site construction, including constructability, Lean construction, policy and standardization, and market adoption.
  • Conduct literature reviews, collect and analyse qualitative and quantitative data, and prepare research reports and academic publications.
  • Support industry partners by synthesizing findings into actionable insights.
  • Support the development of project documentation, including research summaries, white papers, technical reports, and conference publications.
  • Support the creation of industry-facing materials to promote research findings and best practices in off-site construction.
  • Contribute to proposal writing, funding applications, and research project administration.
  • Support data management efforts, ensuring research data is properly stored, organized, and accessible for future analysis.
  • Support the day-to-day activities of project contributors including leading segments of project meetings, ensuring project milestones are met, and aligning team efforts with overall research goals.
  • Liaise with stakeholders to ensure strategic deployment of resources based on project needs and timelines.
  • Assist in organizing and delivering industry events such as workshops, conferences, and webinars, as well as supporting the development of educational programs, including the Advanced Methods of Construction certificate.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Architecture or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in construction or a related field.
  • Designation in P. Eng or EIT is required.

Additional Strengths

  • A Masters degree or PhD with a background in research would be considered a strong asset.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have worked in an applied research setting.
  • Direct experience supporting research projects related to constructability, Lean construction, policy and standardization, or market adoption.
  • Prior involvement in industry collaboration, stakeholder engagement, or knowledge dissemination is highly valued.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with ability to synthesize research finding into actionable insights.
  • Experience and proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods including literature reviews, data collection, and analysis.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills for preparing reports, white papers, and industry publications.
  • Experience with data management and organization, ensuring research data is properly stored and accessible for future analysis.
  • Familiarity with off-site construction methodologies, including modular construction, panelized systems, and industrialized building techniques, is an asset.
