The new Ambulatory Health Hub (AHH) will be located on Stavanger Drive, St John?s East. The AHH is approximately 95,000 square feet and will house NLHS Clinic and Diagnostic Services including Medicine, Surgery, Orthopedics, Urology, Ophthalmology, Audiology, TJAC, Bariatric, Preadmission, Pain, ECG, ECHO, Xray, Ultrasound, MRI and Blood Collection. This location will also house other NLHS Services (like the new Urgent Care Centre) as well as non- NLHS services (including a coffee shop, day care centre, community pharmacy etc.). NLHS staff will be given priority for available childcare spaces. There is free parking on site with designated area for staff parking. The AHH will be opening in Fall 2025.
Job SummaryThis position is accountable for coordinating, leading and supervising the daily operations of the Blood Collections Services at the Ambulatory Health Hub. The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for the site's Human Resources, which includes recruitment, orientation, training, scheduling, performance appraisal and competence assessments.
The Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for supervising and training technical and support staff; developing a people plan for various leaves and ensuring all staffing guidelines are in line with leaves; initiating discipline; monitoring and implementing NL Health Services' Attendance Management Program; documenting and participating in the grievance procedure when necessary; conducting quality audits, staff performance appraisals, and participating in the recruitment of new staff; payroll, time and attendance monitoring and submission in accordance with the respective collective agreements and Nl health Services Policies; participating in team meetings, attending committee obligations to accommodate client requests and initiating departmental improvement processes; and inventory control/procurement of goods and services.Job Qualifications
Education Baccalaureate degree in Science, Technology or a related degree from a recognized/accredited post-secondary institution is required. Completion of a recognized/accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant or Medical Laboratory Technology Program is required. Certificate courses in Laboratory Quality Improvement/Management is an asset. Experience A minimum of five years of experience within the last seven working in phlebotomy and specimen handling is required. Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) Knowledge of quality improvement. Demonstrated skills in policy and procedure development. Demonstrated strong oral, written and communication skills. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills. Ability to develop a strong working relationship with both internal and external stakeholders. Ability to manage financial resources in an effective and efficient manner. Other Current registration from the Newfoundland and Labrador Council of Health Professionals. A satisfactory record of work performance and attendance is required.
