FGNB265 – Student Data Analyst
Internship Placement for Fall 2025 Term
Application Deadline: July 19, 2025

Location: 520 King Street, Fredericton

Number of placements: 1

Salary: $17.50/hour

Hours per week: Flexible (around 20 hours)

Placement Duration: September – December 2025

Department: Department of Health (DH)

Placement Description: As part of an ongoing initiative to implement a new public health surveillance system, the student will support the Epidemiology and Surveillance branch in developing data visualizations to enhance communicable disease monitoring and reporting. While the new system provides robust data collection and management capabilities, it currently lacks built-in visualization tools. The student will be responsible for designing and building interactive dashboards using Power BI. These dashboards will draw from the surveillance system's data and will be tailored to meet the needs of both the central Epidemiology and Surveillance team and regional public health units. The visualizations will support timely data interpretation, trend analysis, and decision making related to communicable disease activity across the province. This project offers a valuable opportunity to contribute to a critical public health initiative while gaining hands-on experience in data visualization, public health informatics, and collaborative solution development.

This role offers an opportunity for skills development and hands-on experience.

Need to have:

  • Language requirement: English or bilingual
  • Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Informatics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.

Nice to have: A student with experience using data visualization tools, particularly Microsoft Power BI, and working with datasets - especially in cleaning, transforming, and analyzing data. Proficiency in statistical programming languages such as R is encouraged. Familiarity with database systems and querying languages like SQL is also considered an asset. Overall, the ideal candidate will have strong analytical thinking skills and a keen attention to detail.
