This Senior Operations Manager position provides leadership to front line Medavie Health Services West - Saskatoon, SK Employees. This individual is responsible for managing systems to meet the performance requirements of the ambulance service in the operational service area. Major operational and human resource components of this position include establishing service direction, building staff capabilities, and improving operational service levels. Assessing and improving the overall service area's performance is expected, both current and long-term, to meet company objectives. The overall general role of this position is to direct and guide the workforce in a positive manner.

Provide leadership to Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and front line MHSW Saskatoon, SK employees.

  • Support and direct SLT if/as necessary in achieving success in respective roles per the organization and General Manager;
  • Exercise management over employee and labour issues within a confidential capacity;
  • Oversee in the recruitment and selection process for new paramedic staff;
  • Actively develop and coach staff - encourage and support developmental initiatives by paramedics in collaboration with the human resources department and other related committees;
  • Support and influence the orientation of new employees to the goals and objectives; mission, vision, and values of Medavie;
  • Encourage semi-autonomous work groups and actively lead or participate in various committees;
  • Conduct effective SLT group meetings (including staff and labour relations) and lead by example;
  • Working knowledge of Medical Communications Center Central (MCCC) providing operational support to Division SLT;
  • Improve SLT and employee performance through motivation.
  • Successfully mediate conflict between SLT, employees and between the organization and external factors;
  • Develop and manage the operational paramedic team while possessing an aptitude for working with and through staff and in helping them to achieve goals of the organization;
  • Manage as a team, the sensitivity accompanying new and/or changing company policies and practices. Encourage and provide the components that will help SLT and employees reach their potential for self-growth;
  • May be required to work on the ambulances in emergencies as well as respond to and manage emergencies such as MCI incidents, disasters, etc;
  • Budget management;
  • Station inspections and manage repair requests, as required;
  • Collaborate with mechanic vendors for service inspections, as required;
  • and any other duties as assigned.

Provide exemplary Public Relations/Customer/Patient/Employee Service

  • Working with the Director of Communications and External Relations, act as a primary point of contact for public related inquires (media, client, external partners) providing accurate and timely information;
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key external partners to effectively communicate the organization's mission, vision, values, and accomplishments;
  • Support the customer/patient/employee issue resolution process;
  • Possess a solid understanding of the ambulance profession and various business functions such as emergency medical service operations, fleet, facility management, human resources, communication centers, finance, inventory control, system status planning, quality assurance and learning;
  • Support the social media management of the organization's presence.

Quality Assurance (Operational)

  • Continuous effort to improve operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality customer service;
  • Develop and maintain data analysis and provide reporting as needed to internal and external partners;
  • Develops and implements operational protocols for conducting service delivery reviews and identifies gap analysis in care or service internally and externally;
  • Creates, develops, and maintains internal and external partnerships, with other community organizations and service providers;
  • PCR tracking and ensuring confidentiality of sensitive information;
  • May be required to be on call on a rotational basis for MHSW;
  • Working in compliance with Accreditation Canada standards.

Uphold External Relations

  • collaborate /work with other emergency agencies as well as build community relations and participate /provide input to community and emergency planning committees and exercises.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • Post-secondary education in Health Sciences field or an equivalent combination of education & experience;
  • Post graduate studies or related master's degree.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years experience;
  • EMS Management;
  • Service/ Health Care Sector experience is an asset.

Certifications

  • Active Paramedic Licence in good standing with your professional association;
  • Valid Class 4 Drivers Licence (or equivalent) or the ability to obtain one, with a satisfactory driving record.

Knowledge and Skills

  • An effective communicator who can build and foster positive relationship with employees and external partners;
  • Expert written and verbal communication skills;
  • Knowledge of social media;
  • A visible leader with a proven track record of empowering and leading employees successfully;
  • Someone who can demonstrate a broad understanding of principals of financial management and marketing expertise necessary to assist with negotiations while using cost-benefit thinking to set priorities and manage expenditures;
  • An individual with intimate and vast knowledge of the Province of Saskatchewan health care and delivery of emergency services;
  • A leader who models a high standard of ethics, is honest and fair in all dealings;
  • Advanced knowledge of Office Suite platform (and similar).
