The Energy Marketing Operations team manages the energy sales and purchases, ensuring the in-province load demand is met reliably and efficiently. Additionally, the team coordinates the department's efforts to maximize profitability while adhering to New Brunswick Market rules and NPCC (Northeast Power Coordinating Council) operating criteria and maintains a strong working knowledge of market activity in neighboring control areas.

The Energy Marketing Analyst is responsible for providing value-added financial and operational risk management support for the New Brunswick Energy Marketing Corporation. The incumbent is responsible for identifying and analyzing opportunities and threats associated with current contracts and market opportunities. They analyze and update counterparty contract status and recommend improvements impacting profitability forecasts, as well as monitor, track and report on trading activities and financial positions to identify opportunities to maximize market gains and minimize operational risk. The Energy Market Analyst assists the Day Ahead Marketers, including but not limited to acquiring transmission capacity, scheduling energy transactions for in-province and out-of-province loads, and running generation optimization and unit commitment software. They may also be called upon to replace the operations Real-Time Marketers when needed.

Key functions include:

• Identify and analyze opportunities and threats associated with current contracts and market opportunities. Analyze and update counterparty contract status and recommend improvements impacting profitability forecasts.

• Monitor, track and report on trading activities and financial positions to identify opportunities to maximize market gains and minimize operational risk.

• On an hourly basis, project the required supply needed for the upcoming hours in order to economically serve in-province customers and firm commitments. Analyze a variety of data sources to make the best economic decisions and the ability to react quickly to emerging opportunities and threats.

• Occasionally replace the Real Time Marketers when needed. This Real Time Marketer is accountable for forecasting and meeting in-province load demands and maximizing real-time opportunities by exploring and negotiating purchase and sales opportunities with interconnected markets, while optimizing dispatch of generation resources both reliably and economically.

This role will provide an ideal environment to become a Real Time Energy Marketer over time. Incumbents with strong performance will be provided with development opportunities leading to the potential of becoming reclassified as a Real Time Energy Marketer, as openings arise.

Our ideal teammate will have:

• A Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Engineering or Computer Science or related Diploma, those with a Diploma will require an additional two years of related experience.
• Three years of experience in one of the following:
- Dispatch of generation
- Bulk transmission system operations and electricity markets
- Negotiating price and other terms and conditions of power purchase and sales agreements
- Statistical analysis and the ability to manipulate complex and multiple sources of data related to the utility sector
AND;
• Intermediate proficiency in Excel

An equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered. Subject to competition response, the minimum qualifications may be modified.
