Job Information and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Senior Director, Athletics & Recreation, the Head Athletic Therapist will:

  • Manages and directs a working group responsible for the care and support of student-athletes, including the on campus Athletic Therapy Clinic
  • Supervises and/or provides guidance to a team of athletic therapists and student athletic trainers
  • Investigates and assesses athletic injuries and ascertains athletes' ability to continue to play.
  • Directs the athlete's rehabilitation to facilitate a quick and safe return to activity.
  • Attends team practices and games and responds to injuries and emergencies.
  • Work includes - evenings, weekends and travel as required
  • Monitors the private businesses operating within the physical space of the clinic and assists with problemsolving.
  • Complies with all U Sports and AUS rules and regulations.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the requirements of the CCES Anti-Doping requirements
  • Coordinates pre-season medical examinations and other required
  • Works within a dynamic department including working with coaches of various teams
  • Liaisons with greater medical community for care of students
  • Manages with fiscal responsibility the operating budget of the unit

Experience and Education Requirements

To be the successful Head Athletic Therapist you will have:

  • University degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, etc an asset
  • Canadian Athletic Therapist Association designation required
  • Minimum five years' experience required
  • Experience in University Athletics working with multiple teams
  • CPR / First Responder training an asset
  • Safe Sport Training required
