The Director, Donor Experience & Impact, is responsible for the administration and management of the Donor Experience, Creative and Stewardship teams by providing leadership and developing channel, program and fundraising operations and support strategy. The primary emphasis of the position will be overseeing the development of a world class, innovative Donor Experience by maximizing products, activities and experiences to support revenue generation from major giving, planned giving, corporate/foundation and direct and digital marketing donors.
They may oversee donor recruitment, cultivation, engagement and retention activities and events. They will collaborate with appropriate fundraising staff on the design and execution of selected stewardship materials and events including in person and virtual stewardship and recognition activities. This role will work collaboratively with a group of professionals representing all facets of fundraising (relational - major giving, planned giving, corporate, community engagement, and/or digital and direct marketing) to achieve the Society's goals in support of our mission.
In this role, you will:
- Oversee the preparation, design and execution of compelling fundraising proposals and reports to donors, prospects, and stakeholders at the national and international levels.
- Develop and implement strategies for donor segments, journey maps, donor experience, recognition and engagement events for relational and mass channels.
- Support the asset creation and strategy of critical direct and digital marketing campaigns.
- Oversee a team of writers, designers, stewardship and events staff.
- Design and maintain an effective evaluation program to measure progress of each program against goals, objectives and key indicators.
- Provide fundraising support as required to emergency appeals.
- Ensure standard operating procedures are in place and regularly updated
- Ensure the continuing development of governance and management practices by monitoring external trends and challenges to respond to provincial changes in the regulatory and philanthropic environment.
- Set sub-unit direction, and define strategy, objectives, resources and budget to achieve short to mid-term priorities, measure progress to plan.
- Collaborate with other functions to achieve alignment and buy-in.
- Contribute to department and division operational, budget, risk management and workforce planning and support ongoing monitoring and reporting.
- Provide coaching to senior managers/managers/supervisors on people management processes and workforce relations including performance, conflict, development planning, and hiring.
- Monitor and evaluate department impact and effectiveness, including data collection, analysis, and reporting, and use findings for program improvement, learning, and innovation.
- Understand and apply relevant employment legislation, regulation, policies, best practices and trends.
What we are looking for:
- Qualifications include a minimum of 8-12 years of experience and a 3-year college diploma or university degree in business, marketing, philanthropy, nonprofit management, community engagement or a related field and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A CFRE is an asset.
- Experience and a proven track record of successful donor experience, philanthropy operations.
Proficiency in standard computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite), fundraising software and donor management systems. - Leadership and management experience of a team of fundraising professionals, with the ability to provide strategic vision, drive innovation, and inspire and motivate teams to achieve program objectives.
- Ability to develop and manage program budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure financial accountability.
- Ability to address complex, abstract problems and develop unique, precedent-setting solutions, while assessing and mitigating strategic risks.
- Communication, influence, persuasion and negotiation skills to promote complex and sensitive ideas, facilitate consensus and commitment with strategically important contacts or groups in sensitive, contentious, and political or controversial situations.
- Ability to apply knowledge of fundraising best practices, ethics, and regulations at national and international levels.
- Fluency in English is required, French is an asset.
