The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking an individual to join the Forest Operations and Development Branch as a Maple Sugary Coordinator, in Fredericton.

As a member of the Forest Operations and Development team, and reporting to the Director, the selected candidate will be the liaison between maple sugary producers and DNR branches to support maple sugary development in New Brunswick.

The responsibilities of this position include acting as the first point of contact with maple sugary industry and private woodlot owner organizations, maple sugary lease holders, and rights holders, and responding to inquiries and concerns. Responsibilities involve coordinating consultations with maple sugary industry organizations on Crown land management decisions and collaborating with stakeholder and rights holder groups and research organizations on advancing knowledge of sustainable maple sugary silvicultural treatments.

The selected candidate will: liaise with relevant staff from other government departments with interests in the maple syrup sector; represent the department on committees and working groups, including coordinating the development, interdepartmental review, and implementation of new proposals for maple sugary leases; liaise with other DNR branches, districts, and regional employees regarding existing maple sugary lease administration; and carry out GIS spatial and statistical analysis on the provincial maple resource.

Responsibilities also include assisting in the development and revisions of policies, guidelines or other maple sugary related processes; developing standard operational procedures, protocols, and policy for the sustainable use of Crown Land by maple sugary lessees; and preparing Minister's briefing notes and Memoranda to Executive Council. This position will be responsible for monitoring the maple sectors in other jurisdictions for economic indicators, operational and policy research and best practices.

Other related duties and projects may be assigned as required.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: A University degree in Forestry, Forest Engineering, Environmental Management, or Agriculture; a minimum of five (5) years of progressively more responsible experience in one or more of the following: public administration; land management; resource management; developing policies/land use plans; conducting research and writing associated reports and briefings; experience working collaboratively with multiple organizations. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Written and spoken competence in English and French is required. Please state your language capability on your application.

ASSET QUALIFICATION(S): Preference may be given to candidates that demonstrate experience in one or more of the following: maple sugary operations, ESRI ArcGIS desktop/Pro software; Microsoft Excel; forestry practices in New Brunswick; report writing. Subject to the response to this competition, candidates may be required to demonstrate on their application one or more of the asset qualifications in addition to the essential qualifications in order to be given further consideration.

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: The successful candidate must be prepared to: travel within the province as required; work extended hours as required, including overnight stays.

SALARY: $65,936 to $92,092 per annum
