Contributes to the overall success of the Global Operational Risk Management in Canada globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team's business strategies and objectives. Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. This key 2nd line position within the Bank's Operational Risk team contributes to the Operational Risk Management capabilities of the bank by developing, enhancing and maintaining the enterprise Operational Risk Management Framework and associated operational risk assessment methodologies.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Responsible for supporting the development, enhancement and maintenance of the Bank's operational risk governance and methodology documents, as assigned. This may include the operational risk management framework and the associated operational risk management methodologies, being risk and control self-assessments (RCSA), key risk indicators (KRIs), scenario analysis, new initiative risk assessments (NIRAs) and operational risk event reporting. This includes global oversight of local methodology and governance documents to provide consistency and advice and counsel.
  • Explain the business benefits of sound operational risk management practices
  • Manage multiple deadlines and tasks at the same time
  • Identify, manage and collaborate with multiple stakeholders across the global footprint
  • Prepare very high-quality written documents and present ideas in a professional, articulate and persuasive manner
  • Monitoring for regulatory changes to ensure that the Bank's governance and methodology approach remains in compliance with regulatory requirements and expectations.
  • Keeping abreast of industry best practices.
  • Incorporating feedback from quality assurance reviews to improve methodology.
  • Managing, updating and enhancing the governance and methodology documents and ensuring supporting tools are maintained and enhanced as appropriate.
  • Developing and delivering related methodology training.
  • Capturing data performing analysis and producing insightful reporting.
  • Drive or support ongoing and additional operational risk management projects to enhance operational risk management tools and practices.
  • Engage in special deep dive projects as required.
  • Understand how the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk, regulatory compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role?

  • Undergraduate Degree or higher and / or 5-10 years relevant work experience in Operational risk management or internal audit or other relevant areas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required to prepare communications and interact effectively with senior levels of management throughout the Bank.
  • Excellent organization skills and ability to prioritize effectively and efficiently. Strong presentation and facilitation skills with ability to clearly articulate ideas
  • Strong business acumen and ability to manage multiple competing projects and priorities under time pressure without compromising quality
  • Strong relationship management skills; ability to build and maintain strong collaborative relationships
  • Demonstrated ability to complete and analyze quantitative and qualitative research
  • Ability to work independently, within tight deadlines, adapts to changing deadlines and delivers materials.
  • Excellent organization skills are required to manage multiple and concurrent deliverables
  • Demonstrated excellent MS PowerPoint, Word, and Excel Skills
  • Demonstrated independent initiative and highly motivated team player
  • A broad knowledge of a bank's structure is a requirement of the job
  • An accounting-related certification (e.g. CPA) and audit experience is desirable, although not mandatory.
  • Spanish language ability is an asset.
