The Opportunity
Working under the supervision of both the Parks & Facilities Manager and Operations Supervisor. The Temporary Labourer is a team player who is responsible for supporting the Parks & Facilities Department with the provision of safe facilities and spaces through the ongoing maintenance, construction, and upkeep of Town owned properties. They shall possess a friendly, professional and knowledgeable demeanor with the ability to uphold a high level of performance while interacting with employees, residents, contractors, suppliers and all members of the public.
Key Responsibilities:
· Maintaining, repairing and inspecting parks, facilities, trails, fields, and all other municipal properties.
· Participate in building maintenance.
· Planning daily assignments and collaborating with Supervisors as required.
· Supervising summer students may be required.
· Follow all safety protocols as identified in the town's safety manual, including reporting any safety concerns to management.
· Attend work on a scheduled and regular basis.
· Perform other labour duties as designated by management necessary to the operation of the department.
Essential Qualifications:
· Completion of Grade 12 education and/or equivalent.
· Valid Class 5 driver's license or higher and a clean driving record.
· Current First Aid/CPR and WHMIS Training considered to be an asset.
· Ability to operate small equipment including mowers, skid steers and asset.
· Understand the critical customer service role of municipal employees
· Ability to work independently; be innovative, resourceful and accountable.
· Proven ability to deal cooperatively, efficiently and effectively in providing quality customer service to both internal and external customers, the public and other agencies.
Working Conditions:
· Regular 80 hours bi-weekly.
· Work primarily outdoors.
· May perform work in adverse weather conditions including heat, cold and inclement weather.
· Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
· Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
· Days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and overtime; subject to change due to operational requirements.
· Ability to do physically demanding tasks.
· Interacts with employees, residents, contractors, suppliers and all members of the public.
