Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead safe and effective execution of work plans related to dykes, hydraulic structures, geotechnical rock surfaces, and hydromet/dyke surveillance systems.
  • Supervise and coordinate field staff to ensure regular inspection and maintenance of dykes, access roads, reservoirs, geotechnical instruments, and related infrastructure.
  • Manage staffing, tools, inventory, and resource planning to meet annual work plan and maintenance requirements.
  • Prepare and administer operating and capital budgets; monitor maintenance costs and reforecast as needed.
  • Develop and optimize maintenance schedules, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with established standards.
  • Maintain accurate records, analyze field data, and prepare technical reports and documentation for inspections and reviews.
  • Oversee equipment commissioning, training, inventory management, and emergency preparedness.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, project management, and planning teams to support short- and long-term maintenance planning.
  • Provide coaching, performance oversight, and safety guidance to staff; recommend training and disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Manage contractor performance during specialized activities such as underwater inspections and repairs.

What We're Looking For:

  • Strong and written and oral communication skills;
  • Proven leadership and supervisory experience;
  • Demonstrated ability to manage budget;
  • Excellent decision making and problem-solving abilities;
  • Ability to plan, prioritize, and manage complex maintenance activities, including both routine and emergency work.

What You'll Need:

  • A bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Must be eligible for membership in the Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Newfoundland and Labrador;
  • Ten years' experience in heavy Civil Engineering and Construction, preferably in the Hydro Electric Industry;
  • Sound knowledge in engineering and construction of dykes & dams, hydraulic structures and underground works;
  • A good knowledge and experience in loss control;
  • Proven experience as an interactive team member with the ability to motivate people;
  • Demonstrated abilities in computer applications, including but not limited to, the Microsoft suite of applications, JD Edwards, Showcase Strategy, computerized inventory, and maintenance programs.
  • A combination of education, skills, and relevant experience will be considered.
