Job Summary
This position provides professional Social Work services to patients and families within the Health Science Center, under the Operations Department. The Social Worker is an integral member of the interdisciplinary team and works independently.
The successful candidate should be skilled in psychosocial interventions including assessment, individual and family counseling, group work, crisis intervention, discharge planning, education and advocacy. This position also provides Social Work services to patients referred from the pre-admission clinics at the site. A thorough knowledge of the continuum of care and community resources is essential. The Social Worker will also be expected to provide field instruction for Social Work students.
This position reports to the Operations Manager and maintains accountability to the Professional Practice Consultant for Social Work for integrity and professional practice issues.

Job Qualifications
Graduation with an accredited Bachelor of Social Work Degree is required.
Current and continuing registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Social Workers (NLCSW) is required.
Knowledge of relevant legislation, including but not limited to, Mental Health Care and Treatment Act, Adult Protection Act, Advanced Health Care Directives Act, Medical Assistance in Dying, and the Children, Youth and Families Act.
Knowledge of community resources, systems and programs.
Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise and mentor students.
Demonstrated clinical skills in assessment and interventions with individuals, families and groups.
Demonstrated analytical, critical thinking, problem solving, decision-making and organizational skills.
Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills as well as the ability to deliver/facilitate effective presentations.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively within an interprofessional environment and establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to work independently
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
